My first true CCW gun......

Just last Friday I recieved my NC CCW permit.
Well, I headed for my favorite little gunshop on Tuesday morning, with the intention of buying a pistol for CCW.
I had a couple different guns in mind, with my primary criteria being the 9mm cartridge in a compact semiauto.
When I left the shop, I was carrying a KelTec PF-9.
(Note pins above trigger guard. Pic was taken before I installed the belt clip.)
Kel/Tek/S&W 34-1

I've only got about 100 rounds thru it so far, but my initial impressions are mostly good.

It feels good in my hand, compact without being dimunitive in my fairly large mitts.

The overall quality of the gun seems excellent, and the design well thought-out for the purpose.

The slide release is a tad small for easy operation, mostly, I suspect, because the designers left very little "sticking out" anywhere to hang up on clothing or whatever.

There is no manual safety, it's a pure "point and shoot", DAO.
Accordingly, the trigger travel is loooooong, thats going to take some getting used to, but, limited as my testing so far may be, seems sufficiently accurate. We're only talking "minute-of-paperplate" at 15yards from a casual rest, so I suspect with practice, and some ammo testing, it will get better yet.

Recoil is not unpleasant by any means, but it's safe to say it's a shade on the "nasty" side for some.
Easy enough to control during fireing, but the web of my hand took a bit of grief after a few magazines.

It packs VERY flat and is surprizingly comfortable. In fact, when driving around in the car or truck, with the gun worn at four o'clock with an IWB style, it's possible to actually forget it's there. I found that a very pleasant surprize, especially considering I'm a pretty good sized unit.

As far as carrying is concerned, the shop owner talked me into buying the KelTec belt clip that attaches to the gun via a couple of pin replacements. I was more than a little leeery of that set up, but I know Clay to be a credible guy all the way around, and had heard good things about the belt clips on here, and other forums as well, so I decided to give it a try. The thing works great! A simple, direct, no-frills approach to carrying this little gun if ever there was one.

I'm looking foward to much more shooting, much more carrying with this handgun!

I picked one up after finding myself leaving the P-11 at home too often. The PF-9 doesn't LOOK that much smaller than the P-11, but that slight difference is enough to let me comfortably slip it in a pocket or bring it along a lot more easily and comfortably.
