"Hearing the sirens wail all night and wondering – were the cops racing to rescue trapped subway riders, or save citizens from muggers or looters? – I thought: If I lived here, Sullivan Law or no Sullivan Law, I would keep a gun and ammunition in the house. "

Buchanan is such an alarmist.

Only people in tall buildings didn't have water. Buildings 6 stories or shorter (which comprises the vast majority of homes in NYC) don't need electric pumps to get water to top floors. NYC's water system is gravity powered.

Also, practically everyone uses gas stoves, and the gas continued to flow. People with pilot lights had no problem, and people with electric ignitions needed a match to start cooking.

As for food, the fact is that food simply does not spoil that quickly. All the food in your fridge will probably be edible for 3 or 4 days at room temperature, some items much longer.

But the lines at the gas pumps were lengthening, Gas pumps are electric...what line is he talking about??
