I picked up a pound of this to try in both my 700 heavy barrels; chambered in .223 and 22-250. Does anybody have a favorite powder weight for each caliber that they would like to share?? (I know that I must work up to any suggested loads). Along with a favorite bullet mfg and weight!! I Thank you in Advance... Dave

I love IMR 4064 for 30-06, and calibers as such but had to stop using it, because it doesn't meter well some progressive powder measures. I n my opinion, the best powder that I have used for the 223, is H-335.

I use IMR 4064 in 30-06 and 270. It's kind of on the slow side for 223.

I also shoot 30-06 using 4064 but for 223, I like to use Varget.
Neal, your not the first I have heard that uses H-335 so I am going to pick up a pound today when I'm at the range and try it out. I have tried my main 4 powders for rifle, IMR 4064, BLC(2), IMR 4895 and I always keep going back to Varget.
Can't help with the 22-250 Remington, Mate. I don't shoot that caliber.
I have heard that a 55 grain bullet backed by H380 is great for 22-250. Made legendary by Bruce Hodgdon. I don't remember the complete story but I think he used 38.0 grains of powder and that is how the powder got it's name. Don't qoute me, I am not completely sure if this correct but I am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Good luck, Mate

BenchMark in the 223 with lighter bullet wgts, Varget with heavier. I don`t load the 22-250. I do however use 4064 in the 308, 30-06 and have had good luck with it in the 708.

I use it for a semi auto 30-06 as it's recommended for M1 to properly work the action. I found that it works well and tightened up the groups in my Remington 740.
I use IMR 4350 for the '06 otherwise in my bolt guns - more velocity.

4064 is supposed to be really good in the 22-250. I tried it in 223 and got ho hum accuarcy and slow velocity.

I agree that 4064 is not ideal for either the .223 or the 22-250. Many other powders will give better velocity in either one.
It would help to know what bullet weights you want to use in each caliber in order to recommend powders.

I use WW-748 in the .223 with 55 grain V-Max.
My CZ shoots one-hole groups with it, and my Colt AR isn't too far behind.
WW-748 is also a good choice in the 22-250 with 52 grain BTHP bullets.
Varget might also be worth looking at for both calibers & bullets, as well as IMR 3031.

IMR 4064 is great in .22-250.
A 50gr will fly at 3850fps, about Hornady factory loading for their V-Max.
Eventually, I went with H-Varget, because it is easier for me to meter.
50,52,55 gr bullets are popular for .22-250.
IMR 4064 works in 8mm Mauser and 375H&H Magnum as well. But I am replacing it with Varget for these cartridges too.
Depending on rifle twist, the .223 go from 40 to 90gr.

I use the 4064 in the 270 once in awile. Mostly H-380 in 270 and 30-06. I agree the 4064 stick powder is rought to handle.

i had a 22-250 that loved h-414 ,it would shoot any bullet you put in front of h-414.
