i caught gunny ermey the other night and he was down at the sniper range at pendleton(?) and he said the m4/a3 weighed in at 19 pounds, meanwhile i see where the remington 700vs weighs in at only 9 lbs.

i was wondering if ermey had wrong info, does the m4 really weigh 19 lbs?

i wonder whether they said "9 or 10 lbs." and it got turned into 19 by mistake

just curious, seems like a lot to haul around with any stealth

makes me tired just thinking about it :D

weighing that much. I have held ARs that have every conceible Swiss army feature and I don't think they weighed more than 10 pounds.

There is no M4A3 in military nomenclature. Are you sure he didn't say M40A3? It is a sniper weapon and has a hefty McMillan stock on it and might well weigh 19lbs.

Saw that episode. That was a M40A3 which I believe is based on the Rem 700 action. Big@$$ bull barrel and custom stock, bipod and scope add all the weight.

With a #7 contour barrel and that heavy ol' McMillian stock on it, I don't think 19 lbs would be too far out of reach. My bathroom scale says my 700VS with scope and sling weighs about 11 lbs for comparison.
