While it's a blend of Lonesome Dove, African Queen, and Shane....and not as good as any of THEM, it is still a good movie.

BUT....the sound effects of the gunfire in the theater we saw it at are the most realistic I have ever heard.

That first shotgun in the saloon lets you know a gun has been fired INDOORS!

I noticed just a ...............h i n t................of minor ear pain with each shot.

As noted in the other thread on the flick, the RESULTS of the shots are a bit exaggerated in many cases, but I doubt it would be possible to get more realistic sound out of a speaker.

kevin costner said he wanted them loud, because it's the best anti-gun message for people to hear how loud they actually are and to see what guns actually do.

I think most movies are played way too loud these days. I'm not even an old coot, either.

I'm only 34, I like rock music, but today's movies are louder than when I grew up. Even kid's movies are loud.

lots of movies are played very loudly. It's so you can't hear the annoying people who don't shut up in movie theaters.

seriously.

After hearing an AR at the range, and shooting a 1911, when I went to see S.W.A.T. I was quite disappointed at the sound effects. An AR doesn't just go "POP!", it's got quite a BOOM!...although, I think if they had realistic sound effects for the opening scene, they'd deafen everyone in the theatre! :what: This isn't limited to S.W.A.T. though...all movies suffer from this phenomenon.

Or...maybe I'm wrong, and an M-16 sounds different from an AR-15. :scrutiny:
