AWB and Presidential Election 2004

Reading James Bakers column in Sept Shooting Times last night, I got to wondering...
Put the two together, along with the Demo's desire to expand the ban; if anything gets out of committee and hits the floor prior to Nov 04 and with GWB on the record saying he'd re-sign the existing 94 ban should IT hit his desk...
1. Is he toast? (and what's the lessor of two evils? just remember how close the last election really was)
2. Will it await the Nov election, leaving a small window of opportunity (Sept 13 to whatever Tuesday the election is)?
3. Will the Demo's push it, hoping to get the desired result in the Nov election and end up with a Demo House, Senate and Executive?
Any thoughts?
Kinda depends on what type of proposal comes out or what might be attached to other important bills, doesn't it?
Any way the "gun culture" can press this issue besides writing letters and signing petitions? OK, besides giving huge amounts of money to the campaign of the politician of your choice...

You mean the Republican House floor?

Well yeah, there is that :D one small pesky detail...
So what I should be thinking is that it's a relatively safe bet that it might die a natural sunset kinda death, only to be replaced with something else... for the children.

I swear to ALLAH that I will never vote for a Republican again if they pass another AWB.:fire:

Here is what I think will happen (hope I'm wrong!):
Leftists will holler and run lots of 'Republicans want the streets to be flooded with "bullet hoses"' ads starting in spring 04. This will frighten the GOP like the little scared bunnies they are.
Dems on the Hill will coo and say, "It's okay, guys. Look, an election is coming up, let's compromise and we'll both win. Just extend the current ban and we'll scrap our new bill that would expand the ban. That way, we all come out ahead."
As the GOP controls the federal government, I'd like to think this cannot happen, but the GOP is so afraid of looking mean, I wouldn't put anything past them.

Republican house...keep in mind that maybe 20% are RINO's (Republican In Name Only). They pass another ban and they will never get my vote or donations again. I just sent my congressperson. Sherwood Boehlert (NY 24th dist) a letter on this topic, he is a big time RINO. He has some problems cause I know he would vote for it accept the Remmington Plant is in the middle of his district and being an anti would be a problem for him. If he replies it will be interesting.

Definitely an encouraging post; but legislation is like Jason in those Friday The 13th movies... it just keeps coming back from the dead. Even if it is dead this session, we still have all of 2004 to be on guard.
I'll ease up a notch or two on my already pro-gun Reps and Senators; but I don't think we should give up the fight just yet.

The House voted to repeal the AWB back in 96', even with all those RINO's.

Why, I'm sure those courageous white gloves genteel Republicans will stand right up and tut-tut before caving in to the representatives of the Democratic (sic) party.
