I was messing with my Mossberg 500 today and noticed when I out the barrel back on there was a little gap (about 1/8 of an inch) between where the vent rib starts on the barrel and where the receiver starts. I was just wondering it this is normal, because I don't remember seeing it before. Also my vent rib and where the grooves are on the receiver don't align perfectly (about 1/16 of an inch off to one side) I assume this is normal too?

If everything locks up tight and it hits what you point it at, then run with it. Don't use the grooves on the receiver as a rear sight. Ignore them all together as they usually aren't matched to a specific barrel when being built.
If the gun gives you any grief when chambering, firing, or extracting then have a smith look at it.
I have an old 870 and the extra bbl with a vent rib doesn't match up with the reciever perfectly either.

Nope, everything works great and doesn't have any problems, so I guess it isnt anything to worry about.
