I just bought a new Perazzi MX2000s, which was shipped to my local FFL. When I unwrapped it, I discovered the receiver was scratched, probably when the recoil pad was replaced by the seller at my request (held the gun in some sort of clamp).:cuss:
The dealer is wants me to send the receiver back to have it reblued - as he says, to "factory specifications." Is that possible?
If the receiver is reblued will it look like new? Or will it look like a damged item that has been repaired?
Is there something I should demand in particular to ensure a quality job?
I want to give the dealer an opportunity to repair the gun before I demand a new one.
Thanks for the advice

BS!
For what you no doubt paid for a new Perazzi, you need to recieve a new Perazzi, not a re-blued one!
Rebluing it, unless sent back to the factory in Italy, will not be factory spec, and it will not be a new gun any longer.
I would demand a new gun, a return & refund, or a heck of a discount, one of the three.

Depending on how deep the scratch is and the ability of the smith doing the bluing. Can a reblue duplicate original factory blue? Absolutely,YES! In most cases it is superior. As RCModel says it would not be factory.

I assume it has engraving on it, as most Perazzi's do?
Billy Bob's Buffing & Bluing Service will not be kind to it.

I agree.
If I damaged a new gun I work on I would replace it with a new gun and sale the one I damaged as used. In this case the dealer will lose very little money if any at all.
He could also sale it to you for cost or a little below if that is what you want to do.

The damage is under the selector switch at the rear of the receiver. Does that change anyone's opinion?
Is it realistic to have the seller send the receiver back to the factory?
Will he simply tell me that is what he is doing while he goes next door to have the work done?
How can I prove the factory does the work?
thanks for your comments.

If it's under the selector switch, it sure changes mine.
Sounds like normal bluing wear from moving the Safety/Selector switch maybe.

Is it actually blued ??, most coloured actions are 'colour case hardened'.
If that is the case then, no it cannot be repaired.
It could go back to the factory for re-finishing, but it will never be the same.
Also if it is colour hardened then moving the barrel selector switch a few times
would (should) not mark it.
Neil. :)
