Importance of various factors

OK, here is another one of those "if I can only have one gun" (and it would be a handgun) questions...Which of the following is most important, and which is least important in your considerations?

1. Quality- how well is the gun made, and how well does it function?
2. Cost of operation- I know many people reload, but I am hoping to look at this from the standpoint of buying factory ammo only
3. Portability - how easily can the gun be carried?
4. Multiple capabilities - how many things can the gun do? Included in my thoughts would be hunting, target shooting/plinking, and self defense; please add more if you wish.

Thanks for your assistance!

1. Quality- most important here is reliability, it must go bang everytime!
2. Portability- if you are going to carry at all that will be a major factor. Even if you don't carry all the time it must be concealable and comfortable when you do.
3. Cost of operation- If you can only have one gun I would guess you don't have unlimited funds for target ammo, almost nobody does. But you have to practice enough to be good enough when it counts.
4. Multiple capabilities- If you can only have one gun it must be for self defense IMO. Anything else that you can do with it can be considered a bonus.
There you have it, my opinion.
