The idea is simple, during the week of July 4th buy a firearm that requires a 4473. A private sale would not count, since its not recorded. The intent is to boost the number of back ground checks during the week as a way to send a message.

Perhaps I'll choose to buy a Mosin from Big 5 that week. That's the only thing I think I'd be interested in right now.

I don't see why that week should be any different from any other week, so I'll buy either one or two.

Darn! I'll be on a boat the entire Buy A Gun week. Well being on the boat will be fun but I hate not being able to help out.

At least I did put my stimulus check to good use already (as the site suggests). Beretta NEOS, Beretta Px4 Storm in 9mm, NAA Guardian .380, S&W 60, Marlin 980S, and S&W 34. Oops! I spent a bit more than what the gov't sent me. :o

And I've taken both my boys shooting. Great father/son time! The antis don't know what they're missing!

Still, it's cool to be born close to the day celebrating freedom.

I wasn't going to get my next gun until the middle of this month but I can wait for another week or so. Now I just need to make up my mind about whether it's the NAA Guardian 380, Bersa Thunder 380, Kel-Tec P3AT, or the new Ruger LCP. At least I got the size narrowed down! :)

However, I've always gone out of the way to find non-FFL transfers myself. Living in the People's Republic of Illinois, I'm hesitant to pay sales tax that benefits a state government hell-bent on infringing my right to bear arms.

someone recommend a nice .22 of some kind, preferably one that takes 30rd mags or some form of high capacity. no stinking 10rd sissy mags, and i will get it next week. need something economical to shoot, and i would like it to be able to shoot out to 100-200 yards, so i can learn to use a scope and do more precision shooting. bolt action or not doesnt matter to me. i am aware that if its a bolt gun, it will most likely not accept hicap mags. i am OK with that.

A 10/22 fits the bill, other than the "shoots out to 100-200 yards" part. While it is true that a .22 round will fly that far, it doing so with anything simulating accuracy is not terribly likely.

You can learn to shoot with a scope on a 25 yard indoor range with a .22. Just shoot a smaller target.

I could reliably hit a man-sized target in the vitals ("defensive" accuracy) at that distance with my 8yo's un-scoped Crickett.

Sorry. You and I have different defintions of accuracy. Mine is 5 rounds under a dime at 50 yds. I like to shoot rimfire benchrest, and 248 -12x is an average score.

I believe the question was about "reasonable accuracy".

5 rounds inside a dime is "astounding, wonderful, stare-in-amazement-at-such-an-expert-achievement accuracy". :)

unfortunatly i cant afford a new gun since im getting laid off friday.
however ill buy a box of cheap .223s or a brick of .22lrs.
i know its not much but ammo sales should help

well, i just bought a case of .22lr. wally world had some for 11.47 per 550, so i said screw it and bought the 10 brick case... and some .40 and .45

yeah, all i want is to be able to hit a target, paper sized, or comparable(moving target) at 100-200 yards. i dont care about dime sized holes, i will never shoot that. even if i could, as long as i take the intended target down on the first shot, or am able to follow up quickly, thats all that matters.

Seeing as how we have a 3-day weekend (starting 4 July), and I won't count on any of my local purveyors of fine firearms to be open on a holiday, I will do my darndest at the gun show this coming weekend. See if I can knock a couple of things off the "acquisition list".

Guys it great you bought guns kudos but this thread is specifically for the advocation of purchasing firearms (not ammo or shooting) during the week of June 29 to July 5 2008, anything else, feel free to start a different thread, try not to post in this one.

i helped out and bought a 4473'ed ruger 10/22. its "preban" by the serial number. in the 230's.

I also helped out, purchased a new glock 30, 4473'ed of course.

To do my part, I bought my first complete EBR (complete in that I didn't build it myself from parts).

My safe welcomed a new S&W M&P15.

Just got home with a new bushmaster in tow

Bought a taurus judge for my wife yesterday. And a single six for my dad.

I just bought one last month. It was the middle of the week and the background check was delayed 30minutes or so. Several other customers in there at the time were delayed also.

I can only imagine the delays this week if the national buyagunweek word really gets spread around.

Ill see what I can do. I was already planning to get some more ammo if the stores arent closed. So a new gun may just follow me home also.

Would love to but I'm, like, in Japan this week.
