Don't know how many people saw it yet.
The idea is simple, during the week of July 4th buy a firearm that requires a 4473. A private sale would not count, since its not recorded. The intent is to boost the number of back ground checks during the week as a way to send a message.

cbrgator May 28, 2008, 10:49 AM what message?
esq_stu May 28, 2008, 11:28 AM buy a firearm that requires a 4473
I may very well participate. But why purchases requiring a 4473? Why not face-to-face without records, as my state would allow?
fletcher May 28, 2008, 11:34 AM But why purchases requiring a 4473?

It's going to be another National "still saving up for another gun because I blew all my gun money on ammo" week for me :p
tinygnat219 May 28, 2008, 11:45 AM Yeah,
I am cash strapped now too. I just picked up my PPS last night. Uggh.
Shade00 May 28, 2008, 11:48 AM All right, you convinced me. That was tough. :)
Gingerbreadman May 28, 2008, 12:15 PM I'll have to think about it...okay, I'm in.
esq_stu May 28, 2008, 12:24 PM The intent is to boost the number of back ground checks during the week as a way to send a message.
Then I suppose I'll have to buy two - one on the record.
LJ-MosinFreak-Buck May 28, 2008, 12:46 PM Would absolutely love too. As stated before... finances are holding me back.
Joshua C May 28, 2008, 12:48 PM I'll think about it.... Mosins should make it easy.
mr_blove May 28, 2008, 12:53 PM Would love, just need to check the finances to see if I can swing it.
Rugerlvr May 28, 2008, 02:13 PM Perhaps I'll choose to buy a Mosin from Big 5 that week. That's the only thing I think I'd be interested in right now.
Fish828 May 28, 2008, 02:52 PM i like the idea. i needed an excuse to pick up a new .22 (that and ammo prices).
Geno May 28, 2008, 03:20 PM And here I was just sittin' an' a ponderin' real powerful-like, how I'm a needin' a new sho'gun, :uhoh: cu' my 14-year-old youngin' been commencing to look to the boys' direction. :scrutiny: Ain't nothin' promotes adolsescent E.D. like a good ole shottie 'cross Papa's lap. :what: Course, ifin I buy me a new shottie, I can't 'ford to buy them 666 bear traps.
dewage83 May 28, 2008, 03:22 PM DONE DEAL. if it gains enough momnentum I think it could sway a FEW people
SG1 May 28, 2008, 03:27 PM That's it! My wife can't deny the funds for a new gun if it's for a national cause!
Ala Dan May 28, 2008, 03:32 PM are a problem for me too; as I did not receive any kind'a of a stimulus package~! :( :cuss:

BullsEye10x May 28, 2008, 04:36 PM I just bought two last week for Memorial Day! :banghead:
Wait a sec, that's a good thing :D
RaspberrySurprise May 28, 2008, 05:06 PM Well I had been thinking of getting another Mosin or a .22 handgun.
h-word May 28, 2008, 05:11 PM I don't know that I can wait that long.
Dravur May 28, 2008, 05:12 PM You mean I would have to buy a gun the week of July 4th? Let's see, my birthday is 5 days later...
I am pretty sure this can be done. In fact.. I can almost guarantee it!
Although, I have to admit, when I first read this, I thought you were advocating buying a gun EVERY week. If so, I can live with that as well.
ZombieHunter May 28, 2008, 05:24 PM fair enough...at least now i have a date in mind for my MKIII Hunter :)
the_right_reverend May 28, 2008, 05:30 PM which one do i buy
Model 12 Varminter Low Profile Single Shot

the old Rem 700 varmint special needs a retirement:D:D
Six O'clock Tactical May 28, 2008, 05:30 PM excellent reason for me to get this old school kentucky rifle ive been eyeing at the shop for the past few months...
count on me being there.
Ohio Rifleman May 28, 2008, 06:12 PM Hm. Like everyone else, I'd love to participate. Finances, though, are the issue. I've been eyeballing one of those Sig Sauer P6 police trade-ins since I turned 21 back in April.
I'll see what I can do.
retgarr May 28, 2008, 07:05 PM I mayyyy be able to finagle something.
DAVIDSDIVAD May 28, 2008, 07:29 PM ahhhh, nooooo; my corvette needs parts!
Jeez, I'm going to end up buying a Marlin .45-70 :D
cbrgator May 28, 2008, 07:58 PM what message are we supposed to be sending?
mekender May 28, 2008, 08:09 PM hmmm, good idea, but ill be 600 miles and 4 states away from my home state visiting my parents...
hmmm, ill have my C&R license with me, but i dont think i can just get a 4473 required gun from 4 states away... i know, ill have my dad buy himself one
lacoochee May 28, 2008, 08:20 PM I'll buy another AR lower that week from anvil arms for 7.62x39 build I am working on, so I am in.
.cheese. May 29, 2008, 03:03 AM I'm in.
Right Wing Wacko May 30, 2008, 01:16 AM Sorry, I couldn't wait!
Got my new XD-45 a couple days ago.
wyocarp May 30, 2008, 01:33 AM I don't see why that week should be any different from any other week, so I'll buy either one or two.
mewachee May 30, 2008, 02:26 AM Buy with CCW, no background check. If it helps, getting xd soon. I feel sorry for all you with back ground paper trails.
I have decided that I would help the cause by O.C.ing every day of June; different project, same cause.
guntotinguy May 30, 2008, 02:52 AM Count me in on this...
Mark K. C. June 1, 2008, 10:04 PM I'm glad I caught this thread because next week I was going to snag a Rem.700 and a S&W 9mm I've had my eyes on. I'll just give the shop owner a coulpe hundred bucks to stash them in the back for me. I'm in.
Yellowfin June 2, 2008, 02:55 PM Forked out $70 yesterday for ammo to stockpile.
packnrat June 4, 2008, 02:54 PM can i get a loan of some money to buy a gun that week.
i will pay you back the first tuesday after next week.
:uhoh:
.
jdorian June 5, 2008, 07:46 PM Ok, been there, done that, next? Ruger 10/22, just because its something I can go to the range and shoot for $4 a day.
iwilc2 June 5, 2008, 09:23 PM just bought an AK YUGO underfolder, but maybe another Mosin Nagant, maybe a M39, sounds like a plan.
Shade00 June 5, 2008, 10:52 PM Hmm. I guess I can put off just one gun until then....
cerberus65 June 5, 2008, 11:07 PM Darn! I'll be on a boat the entire Buy A Gun week. Well being on the boat will be fun but I hate not being able to help out.
At least I did put my stimulus check to good use already (as the site suggests). Beretta NEOS, Beretta Px4 Storm in 9mm, NAA Guardian .380, S&W 60, Marlin 980S, and S&W 34. Oops! I spent a bit more than what the gov't sent me. :o
And I've taken both my boys shooting. Great father/son time! The antis don't know what they're missing!
Brass Rain June 5, 2008, 11:29 PM Dang it, I'm not 18 till the thirteenth! Can we make it buy a gun month?
Still, it's cool to be born close to the day celebrating freedom.
VPLthrneck June 5, 2008, 11:52 PM I wasn't going to get my next gun until the middle of this month but I can wait for another week or so. Now I just need to make up my mind about whether it's the NAA Guardian 380, Bersa Thunder 380, Kel-Tec P3AT, or the new Ruger LCP. At least I got the size narrowed down! :)
Fleetwood_Captain June 6, 2008, 12:34 AM Interesting Idea.
However, I've always gone out of the way to find non-FFL transfers myself. Living in the People's Republic of Illinois, I'm hesitant to pay sales tax that benefits a state government hell-bent on infringing my right to bear arms.
Dr. Tad Hussein Winslow June 6, 2008, 09:08 AM "a gun"? You mean to say that I shouldn't buy my normal 2-3 that week? :p
Otemigo June 6, 2008, 09:48 AM I bought an XDM, an M-44, and a pellet rifle.
My wife- Taurus .40 Millenium (still trying to fix the SKYY 9MM at the factory)
My Dughter- her first .22 rifle (pink)
My Dad- Tuarus Judge 45/410 and (3) M-44's
YES... we went in debt a little. The Cabela's card is GREAT!
I would like to thank the wonderful folks at 111 Gun Shop in Clarksville, Indiana. GREAT PLACE to SHOP.:D
Rugerlvr June 6, 2008, 10:46 AM I'm leaning towards a S&W .38 snubbie for my gun that week ;)
armabill June 6, 2008, 10:50 AM I didn't wait, I already went out and bought one.
My son bought 2.
Chic June 9, 2008, 09:08 AM I bought a prius because congress won't let us drill...
democrats for the poor... yeah right! B.S. for the poor.
I am saving for a pink taurus.
TX35 June 9, 2008, 10:32 AM Well, I have been eyeing a Lancaster AK as of late!!!!
Joe Cool June 12, 2008, 04:26 PM Well if you insist, twist my arm for a worthy cause ... :D
Jrsmith June 12, 2008, 05:09 PM Arg, wish I had read this thread before I bought a XD (4 inch, 9mm) yesterday!
Oh well, I'll just shoot my guns that week and call it close enough.
EHCRain10 June 12, 2008, 05:10 PM I think i can swing this been looking at a 22lr to add to the collection
JustinL June 12, 2008, 07:11 PM I'm sure I could think of something to buy......
jws527 June 12, 2008, 08:26 PM Well, if my C&R gets here fast enough, I'll be purchasing at least two that week - but at best only one will require a 4473. :(
dispatch55126 June 12, 2008, 08:29 PM Does buying ammo online count? Otherwise I could trade my 995 for another pistol.
Gunnerpalace June 12, 2008, 11:16 PM Gentleman, and Ladies,
Please read the Title, it fell apart on the day as well.
funkerbunny June 14, 2008, 09:10 PM I guess I know when I'll be picking up that marlin model 60 and 91/30 now !
Flyin Ashtrays June 22, 2008, 10:28 PM Alright, alright... My GSG-5 should be here by then...:D
TexasRifleman June 22, 2008, 10:35 PM I'll work on it. I'm running out of stuff that I want.
A nice Weatherby maybe.... maybe a SxS in 16 ga.
I'll play along, damn fine idea :)
Picard June 23, 2008, 12:01 AM I'll try to time my next gun purchases to coincide with that week.
Srigs June 23, 2008, 01:44 AM I will see what I can do.
borntwice June 23, 2008, 02:15 AM I say, "buy as many guns as you want, and can afford..." My $.02.
jaak June 25, 2008, 02:19 PM someone recommend a nice .22 of some kind, preferably one that takes 30rd mags or some form of high capacity. no stinking 10rd sissy mags, and i will get it next week. need something economical to shoot, and i would like it to be able to shoot out to 100-200 yards, so i can learn to use a scope and do more precision shooting. bolt action or not doesnt matter to me. i am aware that if its a bolt gun, it will most likely not accept hicap mags. i am OK with that.
BlisteringSilence June 25, 2008, 02:25 PM someone recommend a nice .22 of some kind, preferably one that takes 30rd mags or some form of high capacity. no stinking 10rd sissy mags, and i will get it next week. need something economical to shoot, and i would like it to be able to shoot out to 100-200 yards, so i can learn to use a scope. bolt action or not doesnt matter to me.
A 10/22 fits the bill, other than the "shoots out to 100-200 yards" part. While it is true that a .22 round will fly that far, it doing so with anything simulating accuracy is not terribly likely.
You can learn to shoot with a scope on a 25 yard indoor range with a .22. Just shoot a smaller target.
jaak June 25, 2008, 02:31 PM well, what about 100 yards? would it go that far, with reasonable accuracy? i am used to shooting ak's and such. i am not the best with a scoped rifle at this point.

.22 no good at 100 yards? ROFLOL!
I have very little experience with rifles and I can shoot a hand-sized group at 100yrds with DH's old Marlin from benchrest.
I could reliably hit a man-sized target in the vitals ("defensive" accuracy) at that distance with my 8yo's un-scoped Crickett.
BlisteringSilence June 25, 2008, 05:40 PM .22 no good at 100 yards? ROFLOL!

Sorry. You and I have different defintions of accuracy. Mine is 5 rounds under a dime at 50 yds. I like to shoot rimfire benchrest, and 248 -12x is an average score.
3KillerBs June 25, 2008, 09:48 PM I believe the question was about "reasonable accuracy".
5 rounds inside a dime is "astounding, wonderful, stare-in-amazement-at-such-an-expert-achievement accuracy". :)
mio June 25, 2008, 09:56 PM unfortunatly i cant afford a new gun since im getting laid off friday.
however ill buy a box of cheap .223s or a brick of .22lrs.
i know its not much but ammo sales should help
jaak June 25, 2008, 11:19 PM well, i just bought a case of .22lr. wally world had some for 11.47 per 550, so i said screw it and bought the 10 brick case... and some .40 and .45
jaak June 25, 2008, 11:21 PM yeah, all i want is to be able to hit a target, paper sized, or comparable(moving target) at 100-200 yards. i dont care about dime sized holes, i will never shoot that. even if i could, as long as i take the intended target down on the first shot, or am able to follow up quickly, thats all that matters.
patb01 June 26, 2008, 03:59 PM Buy a gun week eh? Looks like I will be picking up another Enfield.
Cliff47 June 26, 2008, 04:27 PM Seeing as how we have a 3-day weekend (starting 4 July), and I won't count on any of my local purveyors of fine firearms to be open on a holiday, I will do my darndest at the gun show this coming weekend. See if I can knock a couple of things off the "acquisition list".
ArmedBear June 26, 2008, 04:30 PM ****, I just bought a gun.
If I'd waited it would be gone. It was a really good deal (stainless Super Blackhawk for $284)
If someone sends me some more cash, I promise I'll buy another gun with the money, though.:D
alistaire June 26, 2008, 04:48 PM I bought a gun two weeks ago, do I have to buy another one so soon?
nwilliams June 26, 2008, 05:10 PM I'll take part in, this I need to buy a new gun now in honor of the Heller victory.
I can't afford much right now but I'll find something cheap and fun to add to my collection. There should definitely be a pic thread dedicated to all the guns THR members buy during the buy a gun week!
butt_ugly_cowboy June 29, 2008, 08:05 PM Aw heck, I'm in!
3rd Generation American June 29, 2008, 08:46 PM Man I just cleared a P6 Sig so I got to wait another 20 days or I'd be on it like powder residue on a 6 shooter.
moojpg2 June 29, 2008, 08:49 PM bought a yugo sks friday
Gunnerpalace June 29, 2008, 09:18 PM Gotta say this, I hate to be a killjoy,
Guys it great you bought guns kudos but this thread is specifically for the advocation of purchasing firearms (not ammo or shooting) during the week of June 29 to July 5 2008, anything else, feel free to start a different thread, try not to post in this one.
jaak June 29, 2008, 09:19 PM i helped out and bought a 4473'ed ruger 10/22. its "preban" by the serial number. in the 230's.
kidkl June 30, 2008, 12:26 AM I also helped out, purchased a new glock 30, 4473'ed of course.
BlisteringSilence June 30, 2008, 01:32 AM To do my part, I bought my first complete EBR (complete in that I didn't build it myself from parts).
My safe welcomed a new S&W M&P15.
EHCRain10 July 2, 2008, 04:51 PM Just got home with a new bushmaster in tow
brighamr July 2, 2008, 07:37 PM Bought a taurus judge for my wife yesterday. And a single six for my dad.
DZL HOG July 2, 2008, 08:04 PM I just bought one last month. It was the middle of the week and the background check was delayed 30minutes or so. Several other customers in there at the time were delayed also.
I can only imagine the delays this week if the national buyagunweek word really gets spread around.
Ill see what I can do. I was already planning to get some more ammo if the stores arent closed. So a new gun may just follow me home also.
dburkhead July 2, 2008, 09:07 PM Would love to but I'm, like, in Japan this week.
I'll buy something next week, when I get home. Promise.
:p
marriedguy1 July 2, 2008, 09:40 PM OK Ok you talked me into it. If some one will buy my Tikka that is for sale here then I can buy something else.
Luggo July 2, 2008, 10:06 PM I celebrated the holiday week! I pick it up tomorrow and maybe can post some pictures.
:)
Bruce333 July 2, 2008, 10:26 PM The intent is to boost the number of back ground checks during the week as a way to send a message.Send a message to who? What message?
Is anybody really watching how many firearms are bought?
flynnguy July 2, 2008, 11:05 PM I will if NJ ever gets around to approving my FID card!!! :fire:
Oh well, they should be doing a background check on me anyway as they do for the FID card and the pistol purchase permit I'm getting.
So if I can, I'm in.
guntotinguy July 3, 2008, 03:20 AM Bought a Rem 870 Tactical .20 guage,Monday afternoon.Thwe wife and I are considering buying a few more tomorrow or Friday.
