UPDATE:
DSA's owners have decided not to respond to Jesse Jackson and are thus canceling their call for a counter-protest. See post 31 below for the letter from DSA management explaining their decision.

Gang,

I am cross-posting this here from FAL Files with the moderator permission. Below is an official letter from my superior at DSA calling for a counter-protest at DSA when Jesse Jackson resurfaces there in June. DSA appreciated the support of many good citizens last time, and calls for a good turn out this time. Please read below and attend if you are in the area.

Thank you!

John

Hello FAL Fans,

This morning 5/29/08, it came to my attention that our old “friend” Jesse Jackson is planning a return visit to protest DS Arms once again on Saturday June 14th.

Mr. Jackson’s first “visit” to DSA was August 28th 2007. Jesse and his band of misguided minions did not receive strong media coverage. Many people, including the media where even unsure as to why he was even protesting DSA, as we have nothing to do with the issues and problems he blames DSA and the rest firearms industry for.

Mr. Jackson is on video last August 28th saying the following things about DS Arms:

1.) DSA produces of mass destruction. (I guess he found out about our atom splitter and the Sarin nerve gas factory located secretly beneath our building, I wonder who told him?)

2.) Companies like and including DS Arms are responsible for the flow of drugs and guns into the city of Chicago.

3.) DSA is responsible for adding and abetting domestic terrorism! ( My personal favorite. Imagine someone who claims to be so intelligent being so arrogant, ignorant and misinformed?)

4.) Firearms manufactures (including DS Arms), are responsible for the wave of violence that has caused the death of dozens of city youths in the last year or so.

Mr. Jackson and his cronies do not want to address real issues. Instead they are interested in creating media sound bites for the purposes of self promotion and media publicity.

Any reasonable person would understand that the real issues facing communities, cities, and inner city youths are the issues of drug use, the illegal drug trade, gangs, and gang violence.

Rather than turn his efforts to addressing the real issues and dealing with them, Mr. Jackson and his organization have chosen to blame firearms manufacturers and responsible law abiding citizens for the criminal acts committed by drug dealers, gang members and thugs who have no regard for human life, no respect for the law, or their own communities. Obviously, the truth is very inconvenient for Mr. Jackson and his organization. Apparently it’s easier to fabricate lies and slander a legitimate industry than address the real issues and speak the truth. Mr Jackson has told the world he believes that DSA and companies like ours should be shut down. Mr. Jackson has been told that DSA is responsible for producing products that members of law enforcement in his own community and in cities across America use to protect citizens and keep the peace. Mr. Jackson and his organization have also been told that DSA has is responsible for producing products that are used by State and local law enforcement, federal agencies, the US Military and our allies. He has chosen to ignore logic, facts, and common sense. Instead, his answer is to attack a legitimate business and threaten the rights of responsible law abiding citizens. Jesse Jackson is attacking your constitutional rights. People like Mr. Jackson do not understand that there would be no right to free speech with out the right to keep and bear arms.

On Saturday June 14th, we ask anyone who is able to join us at our Lake Barrington, IL facility to show support for DS Arms, the firearms industry, and the individual right to keep and bear arms. We will follow this letter up with more information as soon as it becomes available. We only ask that those who do show up that day come dressed appropriately, and present themselves like professionals. We will not allow any offensive shirts or signs as the media will only spot light those people.

Many thanks for your support and best wishes.

Why wouldn't DSA sue for defamation? What ridiculous remarks by JJ.

Ok, I've deleted the JJ bashing because in Activism it's pointless to rant about politicians and politician wannabees. If you have some plan of action to support DSA then please contribute, but we don't have space and time for complaints about politicians. Let's get something done.

The point here is to show up in Barrington and be part of the crowd opposed to Jesse's bunch. We've embarassed anti-gun organizations a couple of times in the last few months by outnumbering them at their own events. If we can do that again this time, there may be a story in it for some reporter.
"Illinois gun owners say Saturday was not the first time gun control advocates have been badly outnumbered at their own protests this spring . . . . ."

Whoa. I skimmed through that article, somehow reading "Jesse Jackson" as "Jesse James". No wonder it didn't make sense!

Free DSA t-shirts for the counter-protesters would help create a strong degree of uniformity, though I'm sure the press would spin it to make them seem like paid shills, so maybe it's not a great idea...

Yeah, no crud, if he was going to be serious about it he should protest the hi point factory. (not that I support that either)

Just another BS publicity stunt.

Googled it and Barrington is just out of sane driving range for me... hmm maybe stay the night in facist Chicago... hate the city, love the pizza.

That's no joke.

Here in Ohio, Tobey Hoover (ace anti-gun loon) held an anti-CCW rally in a park in Independence prior to the passage of pro-CCW legislation. Pro-gun people found out and planned a counter-protest.

We showed up early and in force. When Tobey finally showed up, her people were outnumbered somewhere in the vicinity of 3-5 to 1. In fact, we surrounded her little group like the Zulus at Isandlhwana surrounded the British. When the media showed up, they literally couldn't take a picture of Tobey without having at least one of our signs in frame.

The crowning humiliation for Tobey was when John Lott showed up unannounced. The news people practically trampled Tobey to death running to the other side of the park to get to Lott.

It was as if Hitler had scheduled a rally in Munich and been crowded out by a Klezmer festival.

I strongly encourage you to see if you can get Lott. He's a good speaker and pretty much guarantees that Jackson will lose at least some of the media focus, diluting his "message".

Good luck.

There were 487 murders in the state of Illinois in 2006, latest year for which full FBI UCR data are available. All rifles COMBINED accounted for only 4 of them.

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2006/data/table_20.html

I would bet that not a single DSA rifle was involved.

I can understand quiet nobel protest or counter protest. I can't help but remember how effective it was in Texas when that man killed the two home invaders that broke into the house next door. He was on the phone with 911 then went out and did it. When the local big mouth protesters showed up his neighborhood his neighbors came out with signs and chants and a bunch of guys on motorcycles showed up and made sure that the protesters could not be heard. Jessie is a product of the media, no will notice if he is out numbered, you could have John Adams and Thomas Jefferson explaining what the second amendment means and the FBI and ATF saying that no product from DSA was ever used in a crime. The Chicago media will only focus on Jessie, Snuffy Pfleger, if he shows up, and what ever crying african american mother he drags along complaining that her 17 year old freshman son was shot down on the corner at 2:00 AM. No he was not in the gangs and he was trying to get his life back on track.:barf:. You want to beat Jessie make more noise so that he cannot be heard. THAT will make the news. Remember the antis do not like us and would not if all wore suits, and drank wine. The ones on our side don't care what Jessie says we all know he is lying because we can see his lips move. We need the fence sitters. They will not be impressed with suits or quiet dignity. They will not see it on the news. If they can't hear Jessie they can't hear his message. just my .02 . Quiet dignity has gotten us NO WHERE especially in IL.

He is not misinformed. He is simply and arrogantly chosing to lie. He knows the truth but it doesn't fit his political agenda so he simply lies.

Funny. Get maybe twice or three times as many pro-gun people, and then just mingle in with the protestors. Then while Jackson is speaking, boo any anti-gun comments. If there are any chants, convert them to pro-gun chants.

That'd be funny.

Don is right. Showing up makes a difference.
I was able to make it to one of Jesse's protests at Chucks last year. I think having as many people there as we did helped us in the press.
Not sure I can make this one, but if I can I will.

Here's a local thread (http://www.2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/showthread.php?t=143696&highlight=joe+horn) about what we did when "Quanell X" tried to protest in front of Joe Horn's home. Quite an effective counter-protest.

Non-violent, but definitely not quiet! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=TEZ9s0ZBAu8):p

I would suggest that the large counter-protests do an important thing- they strip the photo op/ press release value off to a significant degree.
When the "Illinois Council to Prevent Handgun Violence", a tiny little group from Evanston, had their Virginia Tech commemoration/media event, and 175 counters showed up against a dozen or fewer ICPHV actors, a lot of the media attention had to be diluted in order to conceal the overwhelming nature of the pro-gunners taking over the event.
Jackson and his media enablers can't be completely defeated, but this might let a little of the air out of the tires.
Micheal Pfleger shooting himself in the rhetorical foot helped quite a bit, too. Even Chicago Tribune reporters might slow down on featuring him in their anti-gun articles.
Might.

Nope.

While you've got Jesse's attention, ask him how many of his entourage of body-guards are armed.

mike101 also makes a great valid point... I bet his hired muscle is armed to the teeth only if they could get that on camera lol

I posted yesterday...I spoke with Marc at DSA and the company's owner has not yet decided to support a counter protest. The business will be closed (Sat) and he has been on the wrong end of the village stick since last Aug when Jj was last there. The village is on Jessys side as demo'd by their issuing the permits and ostensibly forsaking the taxes paid by DSA. The buisness is in an industrial park and will have no onlookers as the park is veritably deserted on weekends. DSA is reluctant to endure more village harrassement by condoning a counte demo. Before you go, call DSA and see what they want. If you have the desire to support the second in Chicago, please see my post in Activism : Rally-Chicago!

I just got off the phone with Marc at DSA. They've decided to forego a counter demonstration and will post a letter to that effect on FN.

As many of you know, Jesse Jackson has promised to make another protest of DS Arms on Saturday May 14th. We are unsure as to why Mr. Jackson and his organization have decided to protest DSA since our company has nothing to do with the issues he is speaking about.

After careful thought, DSA management has come to the decision that it is in everyone's best interest not to organize a counter protest or stage any activity to oppose Mr. Jackson. We feel that this is the best decision because anything we do to oppose Mr. Jackson, his organization, or his protest will simply make it a more news worthy story, giving him more media attention. This is exactly what he wants, and DSA will not oblige Mr. Jackson or his organization. The protest will take place on Saturday, and our company is closed for business on that day. If Mr. Jackson would like to stand on an empty street, in front of an empty building to address issues which do not exist, that is his prerogative. DSA feels that this foolishness is unworthy of a response. DSA is also very aware of the inconveniences and disruptions that these protests cause to neighboring businesses, local law enforcement, and members of our community. Out of consideration for our community we are choosing to make this a non event by not supporting Mr. Jackson or his agenda.

DSA would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone again for their kind works, support and encouragement over the last week.

Best Wishes,

DSA Management
