My second old Colt this week arrived today via big brown truck. A Colt Army Special in .41 Long Colt. It's been reblued sometime in the past but is in very good condition gripwise and the bore is almost perfect. I really like these old double action Colts.

That is a nice revolver. I would love to find one like it or an Official Police in .41 caliber. Be careful with those stocks and enjoy.:D

I have an Army Special 6" 32-20 in good shape. What a delight to shoot.

Did the Official Police come in .41 Long Colt?

Yes.
It was discontinued in 1930.

If the Official Police in .41 Colt was discontinued in 1930, it was only produced for 3 or 4 years in that cailber, making it pretty rare. I don't recall ever seeing an OP in .41 Colt, anyone have one?

The Official Police replaced the Army Special model in 1927,I believe. The Official Police is basicly the same revolver, except for the name rollmarked on the barrel.:scrutiny:The Army Special (Colts' .41 caliber) frame has several Colt revolvers based on it.:scrutiny:

Very nice!

The one I used to own was almost identical to yours, except for the bluing. It had a small amount of pitting or some kind of crud in the barrel which I couldn't clean out. Even so, it shot well.

I know the OP replaced the Army Special as of 1927 and is basicly the same revolver. However, I have seen many Army Specials in 41 Colt but no OP models in .41 Colt.Makes my wonder how many were made in the OP named revolvers, and I love a good gun mystery.

Very good question. It will probably remain a mystery, other than what someone may take a guess at. I would go as far as to call an Official Police in .41 caliber "rare",for whatever that is worth. LOL :scrutiny:
