Let's Lighten Things Up a Bit. What's Your Personal Shooters Quirk?

We all know .45 is the best and if you are going to own a 9mm it has to hold 85 rounds and that revolvers are old tech etc. and so on.
We all own, like, use, carry whatever certain guns that may not be the ideal weapon from a purely technical/tactical reason but we own and use them because we like them for some reason.
I will start. My quirk is....small guns.
I like small guns, especially single stack pistols and carbine length rifles. I have small hands and single stacks fit me great. I love my P225. As for rifles I like handy carbine type guns. M4s, short lever actions etc. I just like the looks and feel of them.
I realize that there are more practical handguns and more practical longarms but darned if I don't have a thing for compact firearms.

I'm a BIG 10mm fan....there is something very kewl about a srvie pistol, small and comfy enough to CCW, that is powerful enough to hunt deer and Wild hogs with.......
Here in South Carolina, we have the longest Deer season in the USA[Aug 15th to Jan 1]...so it has its practical side too;)

Well I am very new to owning any firearms (I am in my early twenties) but I have always been interesting in them. I like my 10/22 'cause it is tons of fun and cheap to shoot. I want to build a AR-15 and I am looking to buy a couple of Walthers (P99 & P22) but I like just about anything that goes bang. The things that REALLY interest me are odd firearms like penguns. They are just plain cool. BTW if anyone knows where I can find REAL penguns for sale let me know.

Pick up a copy of SAR(Small Arms Review) plenty of adds for pen guns and the like.
They are, however, classed as AOW or any other weapons by our benevolent maste......ahhh I mean the government so that means lots of paperwork but only a $5.00 tax on them.

Most pen guns will be restricted items not for sale tothe public.
I have one in .25cal that I picked up years ago which is legal as it has to be "broken" from it's profile [ of a pen ] which activates the firing mechanism and drops the trigger for access and use.
It sits in a drawer with all the other oddities I've gathered.

I dont like to shoot guns with wood grips ... just dont feel right. I replace all my grips with rubber at time of purchase.
Although there is nothing prettier then a well maintaned semi auto with cocoabola or rosewood grips all shiny and showing some nice grain.
I just dont like to grip the gun with them. I must sweat alot ... have to ask the wife.
I bad quirk ... I hate all S&W guns .... no reason ... just dont like. Predisposed for some reason I cant remember.

I too like small guns. My last rifle purchase was a Featherweight. Not exactly small, but smaller than my other rifles. Carbines and lightweight rifles always get my attention first.
I also like small handguns. Two of my three handguns are small. I make an exception for the GP100 because it's such a good "outdoors" gun for me.

I really like milsurp rifles. I think their cheapness is a major part of the attraction
I really like little .380 single-stack blowback autos. They are pretty much obsolete these days (you can get 9mm and .40s about the same size) but Bersas and Maks and the like are just fun. I can't explain it.

Mine's being tactical on a budget. I cant hold a candle to most AR15 gear junkies, but I'm pretty happy with what I've got. I sew my own tactical slings, gun rugs and gear bags, and I have a milling machine that I can use to (functionally) duplicate most stuff that catches my eye since I cant afford to buy the expensive stuff.

Quirks?
Yup! My name is Steve and I'm an ammo snob. Especially ammo (bullets in particular) that I trust my life to. I don't care about the caliber, big vs. small, bolt, auto, single-shot, revolver, or whatever. If I'm going to use it for anything off the range like hunting or SD, it has to be stuffed with the latest, greatest, custom, premium ammo money can buy. With emphasis on premium or custom cast bullets made or loaded by the usual suspects. And I really dig the High Energy and Light Magnum concepts using premium bullets by Federal and Hornady respectively. I really wish more manufacturers embraced this idea.
When I enter my favorite emporium for hunting or SD ammo, I turn my nose up at the regular off-the-shelf stuff by the major makers. No Core-Lokts, or Power-Points for me. Federal Classic? No way! Okay I have some of those on hand. But that's only because I couldn't find any 150 grain Ballistic Tips and it did pain me to buy them.
When it comes to SD ammo I even tell my department which to buy.
I believe that bullet technology and manufacturing techniques in the last few years has allowed us to use calibers for applications that a few years ago would have required a jump to a larger caliber. There is even a better understanding as to how cast bullets behave on firing and the optimum hardness to get them to perform their best in specific applications (explainations on Garrett Cartridges website are examples).

Classics. I'm not exactly young anymore, but I still get a big kick out of using firearms of the same vintage my father and grandfather used. There's just something very satisfying about walking through the woods with a piece of history cradled in your arms.
I just went through a search for a deer rifle. I looked at quite a few options, including some lightweight bolt-guns with synthetic stocks and SS hardware. I'm sure that I could have gotten one with one of the new super short magnum rounds and been very effective.
However, those left me cold. I ended up with a used Winchester '94 that's over 50 years old.

Full size service pistols.
I hate "compact" guns that aren't small enough to fit in a pocket. If it has to go on the belt, make it a full size gun, damn it!
My carry guns go like this: J-frame/Mustang/Kahr MK, then jump right to HK USP45, 1911 (5", of course), CZ75, etc. Anything in between is useless.

On the good side: I really like single action .45 Colt pistols and lever action rifles. Just really cool and....totally indefensible to haul around a six-pound rifle that only shoots a pistol cartridge but-- it's still fun. Fat slow moving bullets rock.
On the bad side: I really hate the "strict constitutionalists" who slip up next to you at the range and talk about how they hate the "gubmint" and how they really like their newest SHTF rifle....:barf: Listen to me now and hear me later bud, but you're about the only one I *don't* want to have a weapon....friggin' freaks.

I am Walther's consumer whore. I have a P99, and want to buy the official Walther-made scope-mount-thingy with a red-dot sight with walther's logo stamped on it, and in a while a supressor officially produced by walther with a walther-made threaded barrel. I want a PPK/s or /e (whichever comes in .380 ACP) or two, a P22 with both types of barrels and a threaded barrel adapter, and a walther-sanctioned supressor, a P-38, and even a P5, if I can find one, plus hats, shirts, pins, and other promotional junk. I can name most of the importers, and know how to tell if any given P99 was made entirely in Germany, what the little stampings mean, and how to identify the date of manufacture. I lust after the WA2000, and want a KK100 for a target rifle, with both an OSP and GSP. I even have a P99 airsoft and will be getting a CP99.
I also really love BIG guns, and I don't necessarily mean big-bore, but that works. The full Mosin is wonderful, and I want an FAL and a Barret M82A1, an M60 (I also long to fire full auto firearms), a Desert Eagle complete set and a few BFRs, some huge Taurus Raging series guns, the new S&W 500, and an HK Mk. 23 SOCOM, and basically anything that needs a carrying handle, and would probably give sexual favors for a minigun.
I love the smell of burning powder, too.

I seem to be developing a case of BBS (Big-Bore Snubbyitis). An old Rossi 720 .44 special, 386PD .357 and a Taurus 415 .41 mag.; all seem to be taking up more and more of my limited range time these days. So does my S/A 1911 Micro-compact .45.
It is nice to know that my choices in firearms do not seem to be an attempt to compensate for other shortcomings in my life. :D  :D

RIMFIRE! I don't care whether it is .22 short, long, long rifle, CB or magnum or even the .17 HMR, rimfire is great. Rifles, pistols, revolvers, all the same with me. Sure there is a place in the world for centerfire, but rimfire is cool.

I have a few quirks. I'm a rather quirky guy, after all. ;) We'll start with the obvious.
Wrist-wrenching, face-slapping, palm-stinging, bench-clearing RECOIL! I am shamelessly addicted to thumpers. Examples: The Monster, various S.A.S.S. conversion kits, AMT .50 A.E.-cal'd Automag V, .44 Mountain Gun.
Oddnesses. The odder the better. Typified by the "What the HECK are you shooting?" inquiry. Super-thumpers tie into this bit as head-turners also. Examples: Astra 600, Steyr-Hahn 1912, Broomhandle Mauser, The Monster, AMT .30 Carbine-cal'd Automag III.
BIG bores. Examples: .45-70 Trapdoor Springfield, Automag V, Webleys, 1917s, ADC .45 ACP M-1 derringer, Shansei Arsenal .45 ACP Broomhandle Mauser, .358 Winchester S.A.S.S. conversion kit.
Cool calibers. Examples: Glock 32, CZ-52, Automag III and V, .44 Mountain Gun, .400 Cor-bon 1911 barrel, Remington M-81 in .35 Remington.
Classics/Antiques. Typified by Blued Steel and Polished Walnut. Embodying Style, Character, History, and Panache. Examples: Trapdoor Springfield, Colt Lightning Rifles, Webleys, 1917's, Colt 1903, Broomhandle Mausers, Police Positive Special, Remington M-81's, Swedish Mauser, Mannlicher-stocked Mexican Mauser, Parker 10ga. SXS hammer shotgun, Winchester M-'97 shotgun.
I like my quirks. Lots of overlap in the collection, which makes for liking a given gun for LOTS of reasons.
