I'm thinking of making a handmade stock for my sks. Right not it has a synthetic folding stock and I never thought I'd say this, but I'm starting to get tired of it. The problem is that I has looked around and don't see anything I would want to replace it with. I'm more into the oddball looking weapons than the traditional way they are supposed to look.

Any suggestions on what to make or a design to start with?
I'm partial to the way AR-series sniper stocks look but my SKS is a paratrooper model so I refuse to put a scope on it so it's not going to be a sniper style setup.

What kind of wood would be best and any things I should watch out in the production?(treating the wood or anything like that?)

You want oddball? Why not design & build a SKS bullpup? very rare (for a variety of reasons). Serious project gun.

Start here for some info and ideas. You can also do a search under "SKS bullpup" on the web.

i really would like to try for a bullpup but the couple sks ones ive seen on the net just look so dang stupid... I want to keep the 30 rnd mag or even go up to a 75rnd drum if I ever find one, but with the bullpup stock it looks like anything over the standard fixed 10 is hard to hold and manuver. That and the whole brass flying up close to my face and/or armpit seems a bit crappy. but i would still like a bullpup :)
