You mean like the one with the nice WOOD stock and TRADITIONAL rifle looks?:what:
What are you thinking man. That's just crazy.

I've had it with my M1A, that's what. Gonna let someone else who will appreciate it have it. Life's too short to have guns you don't like.

What is wrong with your M1A, just out of curiosity. I would love to have an M1A.
Have you had problems or do you just not shoot it well (doesn't fit you).

What caliber did you order? .308 Win., .30-06, or .300 Win. Mag ? ;)

Problems with QC have been fixed--I'm getting a brand new stock, and they'll send me another front sight because I mentioned to them it zero's in 27 clicks up. I got a new muzzlebrake because the one they gave me was high, and they even gave me a new handguard because the paint was coming off.
They're taking good care of me, but I wish SA would put some of the great people in Customer Service in charge of their 'quality' control.
Feeding has been spotless, it never malfunctioned no matter what, I set up class 1 2 and 3 malfunctions and the thing just keeps running.
A mounting solution will cost me upwards to $175 unless I put it up front. The HK mount was $25.
I also feel there's no way this thing is worth $1350, but that's the free market for you. It's accurate as heck, but I have no confidence in the thing. Every time I get it running, I've gotten replacement parts from SA. I've been re-zeroing the thing for a year now.
I'll be frank about what about it bugs me, but I'm sure someone will live with it and hopefully give it a nice warm place to stay. For me it's just a tool, not a toy. I want a rifle that's both.

Schuey, sorry I didn't get your post till after I replied.
I got it in .30-06. HK imported the .308 briefly, then stopped before any of their dealers got it. And they wonder why no one bought them .
The .30-06 is down to $900 now, they were originally asking $1350. It would be neat to have one in .243 or even .223 but they don't import the former and the latter doesn't exist :(
I think they also stopped importing the .30-06.

So basically you are getting a 10 shot, magazine fed .30-06, semi-automatic rifle.
Sounds plenty tactical if need be to me.
How much are magazines? I know very little about this rifle but sounds like a very nice California legal firearm that will give you much versatility.

Yep. Sheepdog tactical :D Looks pretty innocent, doesn't it?

Mags are $$$ ($45 oder so?), like all things HK, but not insane like those Sig Blaser R93 mags. My M1A mags were $33 a pop  for the 10-rounders.

Hey Skunk, do they make higher capacity magazines for it? Could you get it in .308 if you wanted to?

August 21, 2003, 04:30 PM
No, only 10-rounders. It's a new gun and made after the 'Crime Bill'. The hottest sellers are the 5-rounders as it's a hunting gun. 10 rounders should be easier to find.
.308 will be hard to get. There aren't many laying around, and you'll be paying the standard $1300+ for it.

And they wonder why no one bought them .
Maybe because it looks like they tried to emulate a Browning BAR, and didn't quite get it right?
Granted, HK is the poster child for all things übertacticool and all, hence the strong name-brand urge, but how can this ungainly thing:
http://www.hkpro.com/SLB2000rt.jpg
Approach this in aesthetics, let alone function?

Although, I noticed that the HK gas system and oprod looks strikingly familiar to the one on my own BAR. Wonder if the folks in Utah noticed that, too? ;)

Does the BAR have 10-round magazines?

Hey, Skunk, can you purchase a set of synthetic stocks for that SLB or are you stuck with the stock wood?? Also, which walnut did you order? Lacquered or Oiled? :o

Thanks Gewehr98, there was something oddly familiar about the HK and the BAR was it. It kept floating in the back of my head that this looks like something else, a BAR.

Wood only, it seems like the US we only have one model. Not sure if it's the shiny or matte wood.

Since most state's hunting laws don't let you carry more than that in an autoloader, anyways. Although, as Arms Technology, Inc. did with their .300 Win Mag Interdiction Rifle, the original military M1918 BAR's 20-round magazines will fit, and shortening those to 10 rounds wouldn't be too much of a problem. ;)

Skunk,
You ever looked at the older HK sporters? Roller locked with machined receivers and wood stocks. Someday I might just find and buy and SL7 (.308) or SL6 (.223).
http://www.hkpro.com/sl7.htm Doesn't show the stylish 10 round mag, though.
Actually, there's an SL6 for sale here:

Skunk, I live in Kali too. What happened to you is why I went with the Garand. It seems like I constantly am hearing about the poor quality of the new M1As. I just could not justify $1500 for a problem gun.
Check out this beautiful Danish Garand. I have $675 into the gun.

Let me translate that into gunsmith-speak for you: "This rifle was a commercial flop. Good luck finding parts in five or ten years." :uhoh:
You may also find that there's a world of difference in the ruggedness and durability of sporter semiautos and those based on military designs.

I thought perhaps they stopped importing it since they are opening a plant in the US. Wouldn't they save themselves a ton of cash by maufacturing and selling them as a US made product? I'm not saying it wasn't a flop as I have no desire to own one.

I've thought about it, but I don't know where to find 10 round mags and I haven't seen any in pristine shape :(

I shouldn't have either, but I didn't feel like waiting for the SLB. I hope i like this thing cuz it seems like I'll have problems trying to sell it if I have to! :D

Durability and ruggedness was a concern, but then I looked at my M1A  Hopefully in less than two years it'll be just a hunting rifle I take out for fun, while I beat the crap out of my HK93 :D :D :D

They stopped importing it because it wasn't selling. They were asking $1400 for a rifle no one knew existed because they never saw or heard of it, and if they did want it, they couldn't find it, or parts for it, anywhere unless they knew what they were looking for. The US factory wasn't even on the radar AFAIK back then.
