Schuey2002,

Yes, moose is delicious. Doesn't taste as gamey as venison, more like beef.

Moose meat does indeed taste more like beef than venison. However, the meat off the older bulls can be as tough as any meat you've ever eaten. I had some loin meat off a bull taken here in WA by a buddy of mine that was so tough, I could not even finish one steak. My jaws were so sore I could barely talk. Ground most of the beast into hamburger.

If it tastes anything like elk, it's delicious. Elk is the best tasting meat I've ever had.

Skunk,

You've never had venison? You're missing out. Hard to describe if you haven't had it. Between my Dad and I (more so with him) we get all kinds of interesting and tasty animals to eat. Moose, caribou, bear, wild boar, pheasant, etc.

Dad goes on the more "exotic" hunts. We're planning a moose hunt in Newfoundland in a few years. I plan on getting a whitetail or two this fall. That grocery store meat - pork, beef, etc. sucks compared to eating wild game.

Shooten,

It's been two years or so since I've had elk, but I do believe moose is very similar.

Well, that's cool. I've had elk numerous times (there are tons of them in this neck of the woods, ;) ) , so there's no need for me to try moose.:uhoh:

(Yeah, yeah. I can all ready hear the, "Schuey, you need give moose a try" posts.. I will.. One of these days...)

I'll pass on the rice (the Atkins thing) but please pass the kimchee, I'll have seconds and your share too.

Moose is absolutely wonderful, and caribou is a close second. I still have a bit left from last year and plan on replenishing it in the next ten days or so. :D
Anything you would use beef for can be substituted with moose or caribou usually with better results. They can be butchered into much the same cuts as beef. With tougher cuts, you should probably send them to the grinder with a bit of beef suet or plan on putting them in a crockpot or pressure cooker.

As to the sign, I saw a t-shirt by Columbia Sportswear with a duck and deer head and the words "Become one with nature..........then marinate it."

Moose is the best tasting stuff I've ever had. I shot a moose here in NH in 2000 and we ate it for 2 years. I'm ruined on all but the finest cuts of beef. There is no comparison - moose flavor is superb. Actually, my family and I decided that the moose burger and moose sausage was better than all the other cuts, including tenderloin. We cant wait to get another one and have some huge, fat free, low cal organic moose cheese burgers again!

Unfortunately, in NH you have to wait 3 years before you can enter the moose lottery again. Next year....
