....when I see Mak ball ammo online more expensive than what I can get out-the-door on 9mm at Academy...

Too bad...I really like my Bulgy Mak. but when I can practice cheaper with my G19 and have better SD ammo choices available, it becomes a no brainer.

Maybe more so now with gas prices and my budget forcing me for CCW purposes to focus on 9mm / .38 spl.

Just another reason I'm glad I made bulk ammo purchases in 07.

Mak ammo has always been more expensive for me unless I ordered it in bulk on the internet. About twice as much at one shop.

Is the 9mm Luger ammo even cheaper than the Monarch 9x18 at Academy?

Have never seen Mak ammo at Academy - but their FMJ 115gr stuff is well under $ 8/50 last I checked.

Even if it has gone up some, its probably the best value out there now.

Grrr...I still remember the days (rapidly receding) of $4.99 / 50 WWB plinking stuff.

I guess you won't be needing your Mak anymore. Interested in selling it?

I don't think a couple cents per round over 9mm will affect the Makarov too much. It has it's own special little niche and following :p

two years ago when I got my mak, 9x18 was about as cheap (or maybe a little cheaper) than 9x19 when buying in bulk.

I haven't checked recently, although there aren't any Academy stores around my area (or side of the country :D )

Yeah, if the Maks are now "throwaways", just PM me and I'll be glad to take a few of them off your hands since they'll be a bargain. I've got a Bulgie that is pristine, and one of the best shooting pistolos I've ever picked up. Dead on accurate...

Let's see now... Maks are dead... .357's are dead... .380's are dead...

According to some of the posters on THR, I'm getting ready to really have one hell of a gun collection pretty soon...:D

I saw Monarch 9x18 at Academy recently for about $1 more per box than 9x19. More expensive? Yes. Too much more? It's still way cheaper than anything else you're gonna find (except reloads or .22s, that is).

could one of youse fellas post the link to 'Academy'? I shoot 9mm Luger (S&W 5906) also. but my Mak is my carry. for what I gave for it (Russki commercial model) that thing is accurate. little more 'wallop' on steel disks than .380 too.

Academy is a retail store (http://www.academy.com/) similar to Dick's Sporting Goods.

I reload for 9x19, 9x18 and 9x17. Still cheaper than anything I can buy.
