Since carbide dies work so well on pistol cases with no lube would a carbide sizer button work to resize rifle cases with no lube inside the neck?

In don’t lube the inside of the neck on my 223’s using a carbide sizing button but I believe some people do.

Redding makes carbide expander balls for their dies.

Yep. At least they used to. They probably still do.

It depends on how much accuracy you are looking for.

While carbide may eliminate the need to lube, it can still pull the neck of a rifle case significantly.

For typical semi auto accuracy the carbide button should be fine, for very accurate bolt guns Redding competition dies (or similar from other makers) avoid the whole issue.

Dillon’s carbide rifle dies still require lube.

+1. Exactly WHY I don't use an expander ball when loading my rifle cartridges.

Exactly WHY I don't use an expander ball when loading my rifle cartridges.

An expander ball is needed to reload all calibers as standard dies size the brass down way more then needed. Most .010" or more. The only time an expander button is NOT need is when using bushing dies along with neck turning. If you don't use an expander, the bullet becomes the expander. If you have custom fitted dies not using an expander button would be an exception.

There are some calibers for which I use carbide expander balls. I found that they are better than a lubed steel ball, especially when necks are lubed, too. Lubed necks, used with carbide expander balls, are the very best for not stretching necks and making them crooked. I would prefer not to use any expander ball and use the neck sizing TiN rings.

I agree with USSR. Neck bushing dies are the best way to go.
