hey guys im needing some help.

i shoot stock matches (no work of ANY kind). and the pistol i am shooting now has about the worst trigger ever (ruger p94). it is surprisingly accurate but i am losing pts due to that loooooong double action. it just has way too much creep.

so my question....which stock pistol has the shortest and crispest trigger?

two things...it must be in .40 cal (i just have too much in the way of reloading supplies already) and it, again, cant be adjusted or smithed at all.

detailed descriptions would be greatly appreciated (creep, break, weight, overall slop). also relative accuracy of the model would be appreciated as well.

oh yes... and cost isnt really the deciding factor but it cant be more than $800 or so

Springfield XD.

The only gun that I personally have shot that has a better out of the box trigger than the XD series is the 1911 platform. Since you want to stay with .40 cal that pretty much rules out the 1911 series.

For me I really like how the Glock 23 breaks. Mine has 3.5# disconnect, some hate the glock triggers though.

I also really like the trigger on my Glock, mine is a 27, everything is stock. The reset is so short and light that it sometimes feels like I'm shooting it before I mean to. Really short reset, check them out.

The Sig X-5, L-1 has the best out of the box trigger I have ever pulled. It is also a very, very accurate pistol and comes in .40.

i went and looked at a couple pieces today and have a question or two.

1. will the newer glocks fully support the case or a .40 for reloads? i didnt think the older ones did and wasnt sure if the new ones will.

2. what does everyone think about the M&P .40? i really liked it.

My G23, 07 vintage, supports the brass just fine. The older G22, from the city PD, show a definate belly in the brass.:)

The new XD(M)40, claims to have the shortest reset of any poly pistol, + a match grade barrel, backstrap inserts, looks promissing.

5" barrel, comes with 16 round mags. and is far more accurate than I am. :D

2. what does everyone think about the M&P .40? i really liked it.

I have the 9mm m&p and like it alot. The stock trigger does smooth up after a bunch of rounds. It's just my opinion, but the trigger feels like it has a bit too much over-travel, but not so much as making me want to sell the pistol.

I shot a SIG 250 recently, and it was very agreeable. Very easy to shoot. Not a short and light trigger, more like a nice revolver trigger.

I don't know what your rules are for your match, but it sounds like if you showed up with a race gun you might catch some flack for that (even if it is factory).

Glock 35 might be worth looking at for match work. Long slide, and it has a lighter trigger than a regular Glock.

The STI Trojan and Ranger II are available in .40.

A teensy bit over budget but easily located in the 900s.

If you're hunting the best trigger a 1911 should be in the race. Lots more available in .40 then once was the case.

Take a look at the EAA Witness (Tanfoglio) Elite Match. It comes with a trigger pre-travel set screw and overtravel set screw. Mine came out of the box with a 4-pound trigger and a little polishing got it down to just over 3 1/2. Mine is in .45 and groups an inch at 10 yards.

There are quite a few nice upgrade parts you can get for it, including a fiber optic front sight that took me less than 10 minutes to install myself. Plus, in the .40 you can upgrade the mag to hold 21 rounds (not legal in stock).

Almost forgot, they are available on Gunbroker NIB for around $500.

I hadn't won a match in almost a year. Since I switched to the Tanfoglio I've won CDP six matches in a row.

I've done about $300 worth of mods, but they've all been over the counter parts. The biggest chunk was machined aluminum grips for $120 I promptly covered with skateboard tape. Best upgrade I've ever made to a gun that wasn't sights.
