Although it wasn't really supposed to work out this way, I was drawn in by the 1952-vintage Winchester '94. It's now residing in my safe. It almost makes me want to get a Colt Single Action Army... or not.

Although there are lots of other great choices out there, this one just "felt" right. I plan to head to the range this weekend and see what I can do with it. I'll let you know how it goes. I've got a small selection of 30-30 ammo from a couple manufacturers. making an arbitrary decision to start with the 170gr offerings. I'll see how it likes it, and may end up trying some 150gr as well.

on the ammo... my philosophy w/ the 30-30 was that it wasn't a fast/flat shooter, and never would be no matter what i did w/ it concerning ammo. bearing that in mind, i made the switch over to 170's for my rifle in an effort to pack maximum whoop-hiney in the rifle. if your rifle will handle 170's properly (and i see no reason why it wouldn't), perhaps you'd want to consider staying exclusively w/ 170's...

I had a '94 for awhile. It was pretty good with 170gr bullets. 150s were flatter, but not as accurate.
