Typical was 1-72" Since then we have discovered that 1-48 is much better. One reason for the slow twist is: The soldiers could use round ball with larger charges with 1-72, but 1-48 would overstabilize the RB and cause misses. Also, 1-48 fouls quickly and must be cleaned often, difficult for the man in a trench.
