I've had one for years!! In some respects, they are better than the mighty Glock!!!!

As you can see, denfoote really likes his p99 :) Personally, I have found it to be the best blend of durability, reliability and elegance for a reasonable price currently available in the marketplace. After researching and testing various pistols (sigs, glocks, berettas, rugers, S&W's) for over a year, I chose the p99 as my first pistol. I have no doubts that I made the right choice as I currently have ~500 flawless rounds through the gun. It has eaten everything that I have put through it with no problems whatsoever. It is truly a world-class pistol!
By the way, I just ordered the walther edition fobus paddle holster from Walthers website. This is the holster with the walther logo etched on the side. It seemed like a pretty nice piece at a decent price ($30 shipped). Any comments/feedback on this holster would be greatly appreciated.

I like it, my wife nor I have one yet though. :(
And I did a poll on TFL about look preference, P99 vs SW99, I think it was like 88% in favor of the P99 look.

I purchased a used P99 9mm about a year ago. It turned out to have a "timing problem" in a cam somewhere in the trigger mechanism. A call to Walther USA resulted in them sending a Fed Ex mailing label to me. They turning the repaired gun around in about four weeks, and I didn't even have to pay shipping! :D
Great service aside, I am very happy with my P99. Recoil is a bit snappy, and I think I had one light strike with some Danish military ammo, but never experienced any other failures of any kind. Even with the trigger problem, the gun still functioned, but in DAO.
My P99 is one of my top favorites in my collection.

I like the P99 so much that I own four, two in each caliber, with .357 Sig conversion barrels (for the .40 Auto ones) about two weeks away. The P99 SA trigger is the best among all of my center-fire semi-auto pistols: short and crisp with an extremely short and crisp reset.

When I first brought my .40 P99 home and showed my wife, I realized immediately that I'd need to buy a second one or lose mine. We now have 2, hers is 9mm, imported by Walther USA, mine's the .40, imported by S&W.
EXCELLENT ergonomics, smooth trigger, and HK-style mag release that I like so much...
If they ever make a P99 compact... :D

I can't get past the slide release location. If it weren't for that, I may well have bought one by now.

P99 Military in 9mm, first pistol I ever purchased. Decided on it instead of a H&K USP 9mm....not sorry that I did, as I love every bit of it. It's more accurate than I expected, and I haven't had a single misfeed, light strike, or ftf with it myself (friend did...thumb kept riding the slide release). Plus I have big hands, and it was the most comfortable of the ones I looked at (Sig, HK, Glock).
Only two complaints, but they are relatively minor.
1. The DA trigger....while the SA is smooth and allows for very easy followups, the DA could be described as 'mushy' if I were on my best behavior :D
2. Cost of highcaps. YOWCH!

I have two, a 9mm and a .40 and like them very much. Both have the traditional DA/SA trigger configurations. Like lunde, I have a Bar-Sto barrel in .357SIG on order for the .40. :)
whoami -
Hi-caps (16 rnds.) for the 9mm aren't all that expensive; they can be purchased new for between $70 and $80 ea. - I have six.
Unless you're a LEO, hi-caps for the .40 are not available.

Yes, just took it to the range today for the first time (the new german spec 9mm) it shot great! 100 rounds no malfunction. I actually think this one shoots better than my older U.S. spec p99............I definantly like these sights better.. the 16 round mags are great, it came with two brand new ones and i found a guy selling them for $65 shipped............might have to invest...

Love it! And a suppressor is coming for it!
David S
January 14, 2003, 01:30 AM
i calculated to get a suppressor would cost i the $1500 range..........because of fees, and you have to buy the threaded barrel...........why are you geting a suppressor? just because?

I probably will get the German one from Earls..although I have been looking at the AWC suppressors..
As far as paperwork, Ill just bring it in under a Class 2 manufacturing stamp (Form 3), then eventually just transfer it to myself or my wife...

i could hit what i was aiming at... so long as it was a barn. I really could never get used to the trigger, and finally got rid of it. I liked the size and weight, but i shot it worse than I did a glock.

Oh, yeah! I love the P99. My first pistol was a black 9mm. I just purchased a QPQ 9mm last month. I am going to buy a Military P99 at some point as well, Trifecta, ya see. The P99 is ergonomic, accurate, reliable and attractive. The trigger does get better with use, it smooths out nicely and the reset in SA is short.

hrm...last time I checked (granted, a number of months ago) they were in the $120 range. Of course, being where I live, I'd have to specifically hunt down the '15' rounders that are out there somewhere.....

Unless N.J. law prohibits you from buying hicaps out-of-state, it's not really all that difficult. I bought mine from www.gunbroker.com (seller: jetix56@msn.com). There's another fellow, Robert Johnson, IIRC, (RobertRTG@earthlink.net) that sells them for $70 ea.
BTW, the capacity for the Walther/Mec-Gar P99 magazines is 16 (not 15). :)

BTW, the capacity for the Walther/Mec-Gar P99 magazines is 16 (not 15).
Unless you buy the Turkish 15 round mags that have not been altered in any way to allow 16 rounds or, you buy Mec-Gar mag springs through Walther Germany that are used in the Turkish mags to limit the capacity to 15 rounds like I did to comply with the NJ 15 round max mag capacity law. ;)
When inserted into the 16 round mags, they limit the travel of the follower to decrease the capacity to 15 rounds.
If you check the Mec-Gar mag bodies you will find witness holes for 5-10-15 and 8-12-16.

I own 3 in 9mm. One with rollmarks (AB), Two with laseretching(AC) as spares.
Great piece, accurate, reliable, easy to change sights without going to a smith:D
I use an Alessi CQC/S with it.
PS. Since Canada requires a 106mm barrel to be legal, our 9mm and .40 ones too come straight from Germany!!!
NO importation marks or S&W:uhoh: marks on the right side of slide at all!!!! If some US fans are very picky re. markings consider ordering one from a Canadian Store.

yes, i love the no import marks...........it makes the gun alot more asthetically pleasing............I wish i had bought the MI6 version way back when..........
by the way Jim, these turkish mags that i see on gunbroker, will they hold 16 rounds? one seller said they would
Also i have been talking to Mr robert johnson, is he a reliable established source?

I've never seen one up close but they were designed to hold 15 rounds due to the restrictions imposed on mag capacity in Turkey.
I guess if the springs were weak you could "stuff" an additional round in.
I think many have replaced the original springs with ones from 16 round mags.
I have never dealt with Mr. Johnson but have read nothing but good about his business ethics.

Here is a photo comparing the two Walther P99 mag springs.
Both are Walther/Mec-Gar. Both are brand new, never been used.
Notice the difference in length which determines the magazine capacity of the two.
Notice the difference in the coils.
I thought, as many do, that Walther used a different follower to compensate for the capacity but they don't. It's the spring.
I learned this from Walther Germany when I ordered the 15 round mag springs.

The 9mm Walther/Mec-Gar magazines made for Turkey were designed to hold 15 rounds due to Turkish restrictions. Some of these Turkish magazines have been modified by Mec-Gar for sale in the USA (and maybe other places, as well) to hold 16 rounds. I have two, 16 round, non-Turkish Walther P99/Mec-Gar magazines and I have four, 16 round, Turkish Walther P99/Mec-Gar magazines. They are identical in every way to each other except for the witness hole location.
It really takes a keen eye to spot the difference. All six of these magazines have functioned flawlessly, to date.

I've had a P99 .40 cal for about a year now. I've got 1200 rounds through it without a single problem. An excellent gun all around. I have to admit that it has replaced my Glock 22.

i recieved my Euro p99 pmm from earl just days ago and have already fired it much............but one problem, and this is minor......i prefer the medium backstrap that comes installed, and this one is the euro one with the lanyard cuttout, but for some reason this strap seems to "small" width wise....it leaves exposed edges of the fame and makes for very uncomfortable handling especially during recoil.......I contact Earl about it yesterday and he put me a replacement strap in the mail that day. Now thats awesome service even after the sale.........I will report when i receive, it but is this a widespread problem? i have oned one p99 in the past and handle countless ones and have never seen that problem, usually the straps are flush with the frame................any one else encountered this?
