NEW YORK — The sight of a child holding a toy gun can strike fear in a parent's heart, but many moms and dads are re-examining their attitude toward children's war-related play.

The sight of a child holding a toy gun can strike fear in a parent's heart...
If I'd had children, they'd have grown up with real guns, not toys.

 I gave my friend's daughter, a 4 year old, a kiddie size tomahawk for Xmas. Her pop & mom approved and thought it was kool. So long as she doesn't take it to school (she's 6 now) for show & tell, everything is just fine.
Met one gunsmith (Mike Lea of Ohio) who made a child size trade gun for his daughter (I think she was 12 at the time). Imagine a pee-wee smoothbore flintlock that fits a kid. Cute.:) I think it weighed about 4 lbs.

I just recalled, that when I was a child, tomahawks with stone heads were sold to children without much thought. I think I was around eleven, when the dart guns started changing from plastic shafts with firm rubber tips, to all soft, bendable rubber.
I thought it was stupid even then, though it did make using the darts as carriers for needles harder for my older brother!

“They make guns out of everything and sticks will easily turn into swords," said the San Diego, Calif., resident. "I try to be low-key about it, but will definitely curb them away and come up with something besides a gun, saying, ‘Let’s make it your magic wand.”
Wee and go play in a field full of flowers and magical faries!
Id never tell my son to "make a magic wand" I dont want my son to grow up to be a bed wetting sissie.

"It's a magic wand!"
"Yes, mum...I can conjure up a nuke-bearing dragon with it and show those fairies and gnomes what's what!"

As my fairy godmother always used to say:
"If you can't get your magic wand to shoot lightning or spew fireballs, use it to whip up a garand, that'll do in a pinch."
