Maybe some shotgun gurus can help me here- I am looking for a 12 gauge ,short barrel gun, LOW RECOIL ! My current "bear gun is an 870 with 1 3/8 oz Brenneke's and that is VERY hard on the body. I put that in so you would have an idea of what I consider to be heavy recoil.

Is there a nice, soft shooting semi-auto shotgun to recommend? For shooting oo and #4 buck, mostly, or occasionally a sabot slug. 18 or 20" barrel. Would like it to hold 6+ shells.

Why not use your 870 just with lighter loads? Have you tried using standard buckshot in the 2 3/4" range in your shotgun?

A Good Recoil Pad, Proper Fit, Proper Form, and 2 3/4" 00 buckshot is a much better choice than a new scattergun.

Heck, Why not go with 20g?

Yes , I could use a lighter load, or get a 20 ga. (please, no, not another type of ammo!):)
I was hoping a semi auto would have less recoil, faster recovery, and eliminate the short stroke concern.

Look at the Benelli M4.

Well get a combo of all... semi-auto 20ga use lighter loads, and get a good recoil pad (make sure the semi u get cycles lighter loads properly.. depending on how light of a load u want)

It may just be me, but my Benelli Nova sees to recoil somewhat less than my 870.

1100 Remington 12ga 2 3/4 barrel using managed recoil slugs or buck is about as soft as you can get!
