Anyone know if they were ever made without the dreaded internal lock?

You are out of luck if you want a 340PD w/o the "dreaded" ILS.

The actual production release was July 2001 and included the lock.

The first 340Sc that were shipped went without ILS lock and came with a trigger Master Lock. Hence a possibility for you in .357. In later versions of the Sc the ILS was added.

The first 342Ti .38 Special Airlite Ti Centennials introduced in 1998 came without the ILS. In 2000 a 342PD was introduced and for one year it too came without the ILS. Rated for 38 spl +P this might be your best bet.

2001 was the "magic" year for ILS.

I'm looking fondly at mine(Duke) right now.
I'm afraid DAdams is 100% correct. After some investigation ,it appears an internal lockless 340PD is as rare as a night in South Central LA without a gunfight.

Just disable the lock. I have 340 and 360PDs. Best thing ever to happen to pocket carry.

final recommendation would be to purchase a M&P 340, and yes it has a lock.

It is a fine J frame Centennial 13.3 ounces and is rated for .357.

S&W got it right with this version. Better than any of the 12 ouncers with a stainless cylinder.

Check out the 340 thread.

I can't afford it DA.I'm stuck with Duke. But I think he will take out 99% of any negative activity.
Is that okay?:D

Interesting, I've never come across the no-lock 340sc. If I do I'll buy it if the price is bearable.
I have the no lock 342PD and it is a great little gun:)
