View Full Version : What's the Wife Unit carry?
Big Boomer

For all of you married folks out there that have wifes with CCW's what's your Wife Unit pack?
Gals, feel free to chime in as well with your carry.
Gratuitous pics greatly appreciated! Also please let us know HOW you carry as well.
Thanks in advance...
Oh, my wife unit doesn't have her CHL yet...working on that one. So until she does, I always have to pack at least 2.

Winter: Kimber Ultra Carry II.
Summer: either a Bersa Thunder .380 or a m37
Both the Kimber and the Bersa are often carried in a Jagwear belt pouch holster; sometimes OWB, sometimes IWB. The m37 is always carried IWB.

Still window-shopping while saving the money and waiting on the permit.
Its going to be something in 9mm or .38 special that measures no more than 4.25" high and no more than 6 inches long.
Leading candidates at the moment are the 2, 9mm Kel-tecs -- if I can stand to fire them (thanks goes out to those who've recommended the slip-on grips) -- and either an S&W J-frame or Taurus 85 revolver in .38 special.
There's simply no concealing anything larger on my body and purse carry is NOT a viable option for my lifestyle.

What ever fits her hand. Tell her - pardon the analogy - it is like picking out a bra. Take her out and rent a variety of weapons so she can fire as many different guns as you can get her to try.

A moderately heavy purse
Sounds familiar. She at least carries pepper spray, infrequently though. I used to get moderate to heavy doses of criticism from her when I first started carrying. The usual "your just paranoid" and "we live in a nice area, nothing bad will ever happen to us" stuff. She is very accepting of it now though, I think it actually comforts her to know I carry.
At the rate that she is coming around, I think she might actually consider something like an NAA Black Widow in oh, about 10 years :banghead: .

My lady will be trying my Ruger LCP to see if she likes it. It will probably be okay with Hydroshock but not BB 100 gr flatnose. She can also try my G26 with ten rounder or 15 round to get a feel for the G19. Beyond this she will have to go rent guns till she finds one that is comfortable for her. This is dependent on our move because right now I have nothing but longguns. ( I have done a lot of renting so I have already made my choices).
I can fell the pain of you guys with "heavy purse" wifes. My lady was cool with a HD shotgun for emergencies because it was "reasonable" and she had really taken to skeet shooting with me so she was comfortable but thought I was crazy to think I should carry a handgun no matter how small and convenient.:banghead: This was until I moved her to me in Queens and she started teaching in the South Bronx, her attitude changed very quickly.

What pain?
I have a wife doesn't shoot, has no desire to shoot, and due to her profession she would not be able to carry anyway 90% of the time she is not with me.
BUT....I have a wife who tells me to go buy guns, wants me to carry when we are out, and gives guns to me every birthday and Christmas. No pain here.

Glad it's not a pain to you but with all the topics regarding how to get your wife into shooting in many different respects it would appear to some people that it is a pain especially when they look to you to cover them. Maybe i'm a little fuzzy on my math but two guns on my side is better than one. Anyway glad it's not a pain for you but I realize it may be for others.

Ahhhh....I truly understand now...."with all the topics regarding how to get your wife into shooting" then I should attempt to force my wife to do something she has already tried many times over the past 27 years of our marriage and DOES NOT LIKE.
I know it's hard for some people to fathom...but not everyone likes to shoot guns. Is it a crime that my loving wife does not like to shoot firearms? Should I force her to do something she doesn't want to do because the internet wisdom says 2 guns are better than 1 and life is a firefight waiting to happen? Does everyone arm their children also...because 5 guns are better than 2? Sheeezzz!
How would you react if I tried to force you not to carry your handgun? You'd tell me it was your choice and to mind my own damn business....right? And you'd sound just like my wife. :)

13 years ago I took my wife to the range in an effort to teach her to shoot a pistol. Despite all the safety talk and demonstrations and "what to do if" scenarios, she experienced a hammer fall on a dud round and proceeded to look directly down the barrel to see what was going on. Last time I ever let her hold a weapon.
She carries a Kimber Guardian in her purse along with a cell phone.

I never said you should attempt to force your wife to do anything she did'nt want. I did not say that life is a fire fight that is waiting to go off either but your report that you carry a weapon. If you see the need for one and if there is a need for you to have one then maybe there is a need for her to have one as well even if it is only ten percent of the time. Yes, if your in a situation where you are together and both of you are armed than statisticly(sp) you would be better off. As for arming your children, hey I don't know how good a shot they are.
You are correct in saying I would not like you to force me to do anything including not to carry a gun but I did'nt say you should force anyone to do anything. I simply said that I feel for those who's wifes don't carry and I said it in general terms.
I must say though given your reaction to a light hearted comment being taken as a such a personal attack does make me wonder if it does'nt affect you in a way your unaware of. I do apologize that you took a generalized lighthearted statement so personally.

My dear leader... I mean wife bought a SKYY 9MM... it is a piece of SH.. poop. It doesn't even work well as a paper weight.:cuss::cuss:
The Skyy is at the factory for the 3rd time.
She recently bought a Taurus Millenium .40 cal. in desert tan (had to have desert tan).
I bought a man purse to carry my XDM .40, and my wife is sweet enough to carry my purse for me at times. She says she doesn't want me to look gay... I tell her to quit dressing me up in skirts and make up (haha).

@SWDoc,
Like all the S&W's, the M&Ps are just a bit too big for me (using the small grips helps, but not enough). And the compact, only an inch smaller each way than the full size, was well outside my maximum size range.
But a friend carries the full-size if she's dressed for it and really loves it as a range gun. She's the one who convinced DH to get his.

in a SmartCarry, Wilson Featherweight IWB, or Maxpedition Versipack depending on circumstances. Always carry two reloads.
I have a Commander-size Wilson custom build in the pipeline that will probably become my daily carry once it arrives.
If I absolutely can't find a way to conceal the 1911, I fall back to this

She carries in her purse. She complains about how heavy her purse is with it, but doesn't want any more recoil so a lighter gun is out. She tried carrying IWB, but the first time in the ladies' her jeans flipped over and she was staring down the muzzle! Unnerved her to say the least. I told her a good belt would fix that, but she "doesn't like belts, they're uncomfortable". Oh, well. At least she carries regularly.

She's not so much anti gun as anti shooting someone, and has a job where she's verboten to have a firearm or other weapon anywhere on her person or on premises in her car. My wife has a Glock 19 9mm loaded with 115 grain Federal BPLE in her bedside table, but as far as outside the house goes she's in the moderately heavy purse crowd. Hers just has some Fox Labs pepper spray, a CRKT folding knife and a cell phone in it.
She's in nursing school and they have an anti-gun policy anyway in regards to CHL's and she's worried about being kicked out of school if it were found out that she carries. At least that's what she tells me and that's her current excuse. I don't think that I could get her to carry even once she gets out of school.
She just seems to feel like it would be too big of a change in her lifestyle if she carried.
In cold weather I carry a BHP and in warm weather a PPK clone.

Wife carries a BHP in 9mm and/or a Keltec P3AT.....in a dedicated Glaco Purse Holster. She is in medical sales, and simply can't carry into most of her accounts, so the Galco Holster purse stays locked in the truck when she is calling on customers....when she comes back to the car, the sample kit and briefcase go in the trunk, and the purse goes back on the seat beside her....best compromise so far......
Also in car is KIMBER guardian angle pepper spray.
