Scoped or Red Dot

I have a 4"" 686+ and was thinking of putting some type of optic on it,can use some advice and pictures.

What will be using the 686 for? It would help with your decision on choice of optics if you've nailed down why you want them.

Target shooting.

What type of target shooting?

Bench rest or bowling pin/plate type matches.

If the latter i would go straight to a red dot optic. On the move it's going to give you quicker target acquisition than a magnified optic.

If it's going to be bench rest shooting, go with the scope.

But it truly does depend on what type of target shooting.
