My 13 Year Old Son w/ 870
Dave Williams
June 5, 2008, 10:15 AM
Folks,
I thought you would enjoy seeing some clips of my son shooting an 870.
He shoots with me and my friends alot(beats alot of us frequently), his shotgun is an 870 Youth 20ga with a Choate +2 and a 4 round sidesaddle. I got the parts from Tanks Rifle Shop and the service from them was great.
He is a very quiet, respectful, smart boy and I am very proud of him.
Please leave some comments I know he will get a kick out of it.
Dave Williams
PS His sidearm in these clips is a custom G17 in a Blackhawk thigh rig.

There's good reason for you to be proud, Dave. He's good. I'm especially impressed by his use of the sidesaddle. Congratulations to you both.

Very nice shooting, your son is well on his way to becoming a mature and respectful man, you’ve taught him well. Sweet range set up-

Dave, I'm curious about when and how you started to teach him. The first video is identified as being a year old now, so he was well on his way by age 12. Did he start with the shotgun or handgun?

Wow your son is good. Some of the best videos I've seen on youtube. And I love the range set up.

Very impressive. I must admit, I wish I'd had the opportunity and instruction at his age! Inspirational stuff!

Thank you for the comments.
That video is only a few weeks old......I don't know why it says it is 1yr old.
He started on a Chipmunk rifle when he was 8yrs old. Almost all of his shooting has been on steel targets. All of his shooting has been 3-gun type shooting.
I have some video of him hosing down poppers/plateracks with the G17 and a 9MM AR Carbine. I'll get those up soon as I can.
I have video of him smoking cops in man vs man platerack w/ pistol and carbine but due to etiquette can not post the videos. LOL:evil:

YouTube glitch maybe? It happens.
Did he go from the Chipmunk to the 870 or the G17 or both at the same time? My daughter was shooting a Model 1911 at about age 12. I'd never thought to introduce her to a shotgun then. After seeing your son I wish I had. Ah well. That was long ago.
I look forward to seeing him do the poppers and plates with the G17.

I couldn't watch the videos here at work but I'll check 'em out at home.

The shotgun is a recent addition, he probably only has 500 rounds through it so far, he was pissed that he couldn't run the shotgun courses that we do so I got him the 870 for his birthday.
I added some videos of him shooting handgun/carbine, just click on my account on the youtube page and they should be available for viewing.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Dave Williams

barrel looks kind of short - is that a "Youth AOW?"
Dave Williams

No it's an 18inch barrel, it is a slick little blaster let me tell you.

I wish my dad had gotten me into guns when I was a kid--I could have been enjoying them even longer! But video games got me to liking them about four years ago when I was fourteen. Your son is quite good. When he's my age he'll be excellent and when he's your age he could be the next Tom Knapp!

Kudos to Dad and Son.
My Twin Boys are turning 7 today! Gonna give them BB guns this weekend. I can only hope they are doing as well when they are 13.

Great video of a good shooter. You have every right to be proud of that young man. I'm glad he likes Glocks and 870s. They will serve him well. You've done a good job with him.

I just watched the first handgun video, Dave. Good job. I'll try to do the others later this evening. I'm enjoying them very much.
Forgot to ask ... How come no sling on the 870?
Dave Williams
June 5, 2008, 08:31 PM
There will be a sling, just gotta get the $$ together, you know how that goes.:)

Usually, I don't resurrect threads, but this deserves to be brought back up. Seeing these videos reminds me of three things:
1) My dad never taught my older sister to shoot when she was young, so I had to. She is 13 years older than me, never touched a gun until she was 36, and now loves shooting. I will be teaching my sons AND daughters to shoot from a young age.
2) Although I started shooting on a semi-regular basis when I was 11, I never did anyhting more "action" oriented than sporting clays until I got to West Point. A guy I knew there was the USPSA juniors champion form California. I was jealous as hell.
3) Remember "The Patriot?" "Aim small, miss small?" Part of protecting your family means teaching them how--and when--to protect themselves. I would have Dave's son covering my six any day. He sure as hell outshoots most soldiers.

Dave, this is for your son...
Good shooting young man! You showed me you think on your feet...moving, shooting, and thinking all at once! Good job...and good shooting. cool.
Dave, this is for you...
GOOD JOB! You have done good by including your son in with your intrests and giving him good instruction and equipment. The dividends come all through life! I bet even the other guys at the range get a kick seeing him competing and interacting. I say again...GOOD JOB!
Mark.

Words cannot express how I truly I am uplifted in seeing this young man shoot, and being parented and mentored as he is.
I'd be honored to be mentored by the son and his father.
Sending best to both father and son.

Pretty awesome! Looks like a good kid there, thats for sure. Keep them around shooting sports. I think the competition and the people that surround it are good for kids. Positive role models.

Man he's pretty damn good. Must feel good knowing he can defend himself and the family when you're not around.
My wife's 6 weeks pregnant with our first child. I hope he/she will be that good when they're 13. But then again I did say that if I have a daughter she will be a sniper.
