Is this ammo safe?

I have some old Cor-bon 158 grain lead hollow point .38 Special +P ammo that was advertised with a MV of 1,000 fps. I do not know the pressure specs. I would like to fire it in a Colt Mark III "J" Frame, "Official Police" for self defense. I think this Colt can handle this ammo in small doses but wanted other opinions. What do you think? I suppose Cor-bon would be a logical source of opnions.

No one has specs for SAMI on 1,000 fps 158 grain ammo? That surprises me. Am I missing something? I thought this was sort of cut and dry. I also would have thought that there would be opinions on this revolver. I see that I mistakenly described it as a "J" frame Colt. I believe it is an "I" medium frame- larger than the Police Positive but smaller and lighter than the .357 Trooper and Python.
Or is my breath bad???

A MkIII is a J frame. An I frame is the frame that the Trooper and the Python is built on. A MkIII is quite strong and could shoot those Cor-bons all day and want some more.

Majik,
Thanks for clarification on the frame series. My source books stated the Mark III Trooper is a J but I did not know if all Mark IIIs were then Js. The serial number does begin with a J prefix. That ought to have clued me.
It looks and feels strong enough. I just could not sure and you know the danger associated with a lack of confidence is a self defense weapon.
Thanks again.

Cor-Bon would not sell any ammo that would be unsafe in a quality made gun. I would not hesitate to use it in any S&W, Colt, Ruger or other decent gun.
