I have a M48A in great shape. Was out at the range today and the trigger pull really began to bother me. I know I only paid $89 for the rifle and shouldn't complain and I know milsurps are notorious for bad triggers but is there anything I can do to make it better? Feels like the pull is 2" long, feels like it will go then pull more then more then finally goes. Anything that I can do? Thanks.

Look up Timney triggers from Brownells. I have on on my Yugo. If I can install it, anyone can. About $40.

Clip off a coil of the trigger return spring. It's needlessly stiff.

Then lubricate the point where the upper trigger surface levers against the bottom of the receiver. Use moly grease if you have it. You'll understand the instructions once you get the action out of the stock and look at it.

Then CAREFULLY polish the sear engagement surface on the bottom of the bolt. You MUST NOT round the corners or edges or you will almost certainly have to buy new parts to remedy what will be an unsafe condition.

If you wish, you can disassemble the trigger assembly and polish the sear (the part that protrudes up into the bolt race.) Ditto above warning about rounding corners.

Then lubricate the bolt/sear engagement lightly with a moly grease.

If you use a dremel for any of this, the gun gods will haunt you with misfires, curse your rifling with excessive metal fouling and cause your sights to blur and your scopes to fog.
