I have an early "stamped in crane" model 40. I'd value it at around $600 including orig. box. The fact is that S&W now builds repros of this gun in 3 finishes. The new guns can fire +P and have new style cyl. retention feature. Otherwise except for the fact my gun has the "pin the safety" feature, they are virtually the same gun. Does this devalue my gun? I'm gonna trade it for something.

IMO to be worth $600 the gun would have to be unfired in the original box with all tools and documentation as shipped.

The new guns should not affect an older piece valuable to collectors. Might have same some impact on the shooter grade guns but not the ones a collector would buy.
