From the looks of the preview, there are going to be some hardcore gun fights. since all the trailer is him talking while the camera pans over a whole bunch of firearms i would love to own.

Yeah I saw the teaser, not sure if its the same thing as the trailer. Looks pretty cool. But I doubt it will be anything like the game. I think there was a comic, but i never saw one.

If you want a cool shootem up movie, Equilibriem is an amazing movie.

I saw the teaser for it. I really really want to like this movie as Punny was my second favorite comic book character right after Spawn. But I'm not holding my breath, because it might very well suck.

The comic books were good back in the day, as the Punisher was really one of the first big anti-heros. Whether or not the character still holds up or has any relevance now is certainly up for debate. Besides, I haven't picked up a comic book since I was in high school.

BTW, if any of you are comic geeks in addition to gun geeks, I suggest digging through the local comic shop's archives for copies of 'The Punisher Armories' Very cool, each page would have one or two well-done comic drawings of a particular gun, with a synopsis of how best to employ it.

I used to read the Punisher all the time. Punisher War Journal was the best. They made a Punisher movie back in the late 80's with Dalph Lungren (sp?) that wasn't all that great. I haven't seen anything on this new one though. Hope its better than the first one.

Actuallu anothe rdisaster like the Lundgren movie was my initial fear. That was ninety minutes of my life I could have better spent. I'll hold judgement on this one until after I see it.
Is it at least going to act like the first one never happened?

My understanding is that this movie totally ignores the first Punisher movie and starts from scratch.

this is the first that I have heard about a new Punisher movie. The Dolph version was pretty bad. Just kept repeating" The guilty must be punished"

I will have to check out the trailer and see.

The Punisher's cast & crew hold a conference.

August 06, 2003 - Some of the cast and crew of The Punisher held a press conference in Tampa on Monday to coincide with the commencement of principal photography on the Marvel Studios/Artisan Entertainment comic book movie. The Comics Continuuum has a few quotes from the conference.

The Punisher is "not a routine revenge story," claims Thomas Jane who plays the title role. "It's a beautiful story about a guy in a unique position. His family is murdered, and he sees only one choice available to him: that's to go after the people who killed his family. He can't lose, because if he gets them, he has avenged, in some small part, the death of his family. If they get him, then he is punished for not being able to save them. That's a beautiful story about atonement and punishment."

"We're attempting to make a full blown, huge action picture with all of the Hollywood trappings for probably less money than a picture like this has ever been executed for," said writer/director Jonathan Hensleigh. "That's a bold claim, but I'll stand by it. ... (The Punisher) will all be live-action, no computer-generated characters or stunts. We want to re-create the tone of classic action movies from the '60s and '70s."

"What drove (the decision to shoot in Tampa) was the criminal enterprise of the villain [portrayed by John Travolta], who operates along the Gulf of Mexico. We considered other Gulf cities – Biloxi, Mobile, New Orleans, Galveston – but Tampa had what we wanted," Tampa Bay Online quoted Hensleigh as saying. "Plus we can double the local beaches for Puerto Rico."

The St. Petersburg Times claims "the scenes involving the murder of FBI agent Frank Castle's family, spurring his vengeful side, will be filmed at Fort De Soto Park and Honeymoon Island in Pinellas County. The rest of the production is scheduled for Tampa, mostly in the Channel District, Ybor City and downtown."

Thanks to Comics2Film for the heads-up!

The Punisher opens summer 2004.

The teaser looks better than the entire first movie! Although having John Travolta in a film gives it a 50/50 chance at being any good. :D
