I have a lot of brass with the NATO cross and IVI on the headstamp. Where is this stuff from? It weighs more than Lake City brass, and has a smaller case volume.

I have never seen IVI cases. I know Israel makes some with IMI on the headstamp.

IVI = Industries Valcartier Inc. (Presently SNC Technologies Inc.) Like mentioned...it's Canadian.

Real neat site with lots of pictures and info on headstamps:

IVI is NATO-spec, so it will share a lot of general similarities with Lake City. Crimp primers definitely. I've reloaded IVI in 7.62, 5.56 and 9mm.

The cross in a circle is the NATO RSI marking.

IVI brass is slightly heavier, and has slightly less case volume than Lake City. Do you reduce your loads?

During one of my EOD operations, I picked up several thousand rounds of IVI 70. It is the most accurate 7.62mm ammo I have ever fired.

Uneasy_rider had it right; the cases are heavier than LC, and much heavier than some commercial cases.

'Impact Varies Indeterminately' was the DCRA's name for it.

I only came across one batch of such brass, and my results were not stellar.

IVI rifle brass has worked ok for me. I haven't tried to "push the envelope" on velocity, since it may be a bit less volume that other similar cases. I tend to use commercial if I'm loading for higher accuracy.

No issues with the IVI pistol brass, nice strong stuff.

alsaqr:

You think IVI 70 was accurate?

DA 64 was possibly THE most accurate 7.62mm made in Canada.

Dominion Arsenals was the forerunner of IVI.

There are some other years of IVI that were accurate. 78/79, to name a couple of years, also, I believe, 84.
