Okay, I know I've posted ad nauseum about this, but I have some concrete knowledge now. I'll be going to the gun show next month with around $250 in my pocket. I'm going to be on the hunt for either a good 9mm auto (like one of those German police trade-in Sig P6s) or a good .357 revolver of some kind, like a Ruger Security Six. You think I'll be able to find something like that for $250 in Ohio? This is going to be my first handgun for plinking/SD and possibly CCW at some point in the future.

It can be done. It's going to be an up hill search at that price. Your best bet will be to sit with a friend at a table if you know someone who does the show. If you don't have a buddy with a table, find a spot near a door, out of the aisle, away from the other tables and watch. Be bold, flag'em down as they come in. Don't waste their time if it's not what you want or is out of your price range. Again try and stay away from blocking tables or aisles while you haggle. Don't be afraid to make a reasonable offer if you find something you like. Should go without saying but...be sure to have your ID with you, ask to see theirs too. Over dress. Sure jeans with holes and stained hoodies aren't really out of place but you'll find you'll do better without a hat, wearing a clean shirt with a collar and nice jeans, just about every time. Split up you cash, no need to flash a wad if you don't have to. Trust your gut. If it doesn't "feel" right it's a good idea to pass. The seller should know something about what he's selling. It's better if you know more. The less he knows and the fewer "extras" (box, case, factory tools etc) he has the better the chance it's not a deal you want. Remember you don't have to spend your money. Have fun.
