So my stimulus check is slapping me in the face to buy an FNP 45, but I have yet to locate one (even to rent). How many people here have one and how do you like it? Pictures would be a big help!

As much as I like the FNP line, I must say that the FNP-45 is an awfully large pistol.

MMMike, nice looking gun! I do realize that it is big and that's ok with me, I have plenty of smaller guns for CCW. I like the FNP 45 for what it is: A big, Hi-cap, 45acp combat pistol.

How is the accuracy? Reliability?

It's sitting #1 on my buy list.

Accuracy is is dead on, better than me.

Reliability has been 100% so far with a wide variety of ammo, somewhere around 500 rounds or so.

I haven't shot for a month or so, you got me thinkin' I should hit the range today :D

Had a chance to spend a day shooting BOTH the FNP-9 and FNP-45 (about 250+rnds each) and came away being VERY IMPRESSED with both guns!! Prices were $425 for the 9 and $540 for the .45... Bought the 9mm and LOVE IT! As Jax said the .45 IS a big gun and definitely has that 'big-gun feel' (but fit MY grip PERFECT)... great quality, looks super, tear-down simple as all hell, and VERY ACCURATE... also, SOFTEST recoil I've ever felt in .45. Would have bought the .45 but could only $$ one... and hate spending the .45 ammo cost (targeting). Saw CDNN running a VG 'special' on the FNPs (about $510 for .45 and $380 for 9mm)... check 'em out... best I've ever heard getting a NIB FNP-45 for was $490. Like anything, you gotta hold-it, shoot-it.. and yes, hard to find (even for rental)! Would definitely recommend the gun... if could ever be had UNDER $500, get it!! BTW... I now have over 1000+rnds in the FNP-9... ZERO problems... great product, great shoot... very satisfied!!

It's home made, 4th holster I've made. Rough but functional. ;)

How big is the FNP 45 compared to the glock 21 or the usp 45, or the other main stream double stack 45s?

Mine has a very smooth trigger. 100% reliable and laser accurate. It's all I could ask for. :cool:

I held one at a recent gun show...wow, it is big and top heavy, but I Imagine loaded, the weight balances out. I just wonder how much you have to compensate for that once you get close to an empty magazine.

Ed, in reality, you don't even notice it while your shooting. The only time it feels at all top-heavy is maybe when I'm changing out mags, but it's really not noticable.

Here's my FNP-45 USG report (with pics) including some early target results that may help you in thinking over this fine weapon. I'm finding a lot of folks writing about it being too large, but then find out they haven't even fired one. Looking at it is a whole world away from handling and firing this lady with loaded rounds. I like mine and I do not have big hands at all. I read all these comments about the awesome size of the FNP-45, but feel it's not really a very meaningful comment. Put a bunch of double stack .45acp pistols out on the counter together (I did) - XD, HK, S&W M&P, Taurus 24/7 and the FNP-45 I ended up with. They are all quite large pistols, and all have large grips. The specifics of the grip dimensions (width to depth as well as backstrap shape and/or swell) will determine which one is the best fit for anyone. But to think that the FNP-45 is unusually large in this class of pistol is just wrong to my eyes and hands.

Of the five hi-cap .45's in the store at the time, the FNP-45 felt by far the best in my hands. Then the only decision was matte stainless or melonite slide - I went with the matte stainless of course :)

The only complaint I have about mine is the very thin plastic trigger. It flexes and makes the pull feel very spongy. Its most notable in DA, but I can feel it SA, as well. As far as I can tell FN doesn't make a metal trigger, and the gun hasn't been out long enough or gained enough popularity for a third party to make one. That's disappointing, because the break is actually very crisp.

Aside from that, I'm very happy with it. It is a soft shooter and feels great in my hand. The grip size is somewhat love it or hate it - all my friends who have shot it feel it is too large. Its also nice for reloaders - it drops the brass in a nice little pile at your feet.

i have to say +1 on the FNP45....i LOVE mine. i dont get the criticism of it being too big and bulky, although i used to think so myself until i actually shot one and handled it for more then a few minutes. its the most accurate shooting .45 i have ever shot...heck, its close to being the most accurate shooting gun i have ever shot to be honest.

those who say that it can not be carried daily or concealed are dead wrong as well. the FNP45 has become my primary concealed carry gun and i carry it daily with no problems with concealment, printing, or whatever. of course you have to find the right holster for this manly gun, for me that holster is the blade-tech UCH. this holster/gun set up feels just as comfortable to me as wearing my XD45compact in my m-tac from comp-tac. the UCH is actually slides in my waist much easier than the m-tac too. so DONT believe the naysayers regarding this gun not being good for concealed carry...it is. and with 14+1 rounds of .45 and a couple 14rd mags on my hip, i dont think many would want to argue much anyway... :what:

i have only 2 issues with the FNP45, both are not serious and dont really matter to me that much:

1) the loaded chamber indicator does not protrude at all making it unusable. i have heard that this is a none problem with the FNP45 specifically that FNH is aware of. im not sure if there will be a fix/free repair for this, but as i said....it aint a biggie at all and has nothing to do with the primary functions of this gun.

2) the bigger issue is that you can hardly fine these guns at local gun stores. the demand on them seems to be steadily growing as word gets out of how good they are. the price has also been creeping up as well. if you can find one, GET IT!!! i heard on another forum that FNH is supposed to be stepping up on this gun, hopefully production will pick up to meet demand.

lastly, and this is a big one for me. since i have had my FNP45, i have not carried my XD45c at all....not even once. i was looking for a full sized .45, but not intending to replace my beloved XD45. once i got the bladetech UCH and started wearing the FNP45, i seem to have forgotten about the XD. this is huge for me as the XD45 was once considered my best concealed carry gun. i will probably just start alternating weeks with them, i havent missed the XD to be honest though...and i love that gun as well.

I'm hoping to pick one up this week, my local shop has one. They want $650 for it, which seems a little high, but I think they give you a discount if you pay cash. I already bought some WWB, but now I'm reading reports that it doesn't load well in the mags, causing feeding problems. Kalis, do you use WWB in yours and have you had any problems?

I've shot WWB, PMC bronze and Independence - all 230gr FMJ - for target rounds. They have all fed fine, in both the mags that came with it and my additional FNH factory mags (from impactguns.com). All my mags were very stiff to load at first, but I use a Maglula UPLULA mag loader so no problems.

$650 for a matte stainless slide is on par with around here (central VA), but the melonite black slides go for about $30-$40 less.

P.S. My FNP-45 has also fed any hollow points I've tried in it - winchester 185gr silvertips, Hornady 200gr TAP+p and XTP, Speer, remington.

gwnorth, my shop wants 650 for the black slide version, but hopefully they still do the cash discount, which I'm guessing is the 3% mark up for credit card purchases. We'll see though. I might pick up a P01 too, I'll see if they do a multi- firearm purchase discount ;)

i shoot anything and everything through mine without a hiccup. i have shot WWB and didnt have a problem. i've mixed rounds in mags and still no problems. i mostly shoot magtech through it (cheapest i can get) and also remington hollow point (walmart green/white box....again, cheap). both of those shoot just fine.

this is a fighting pistol, it can handle whatever you feed it and keep eating. get it and you will not be let down.

btw, i paid $575 for mine...its the bi-tone stainless version (as can be seen in the pics). it was brand new and also came with the FNH shooter's pack designed just for the FNP45 (made by blade-tech).

I've got a black FNP9 and a stainless FNP40. These things are great. I'm waiting for FN to offer the free shooter's pack, then I'm buying the USG version of the FNP45.
