Help me get some perspective on my next purchase

My birthday is coming up and fiance is going to buy me a gun on Buds as a gift. She wants to spend $600. I want something that is purely a fun gun but in a larger caliber than my nines. No safety levers allowed. Whatever I tell her when she gets home this afternoon is what I get.

So from browsing around on Buds I came across these three items.

I like the feel of the XD and its cheap. I also like the feel of the FNP and I like that its DA/SA with a decocker which is my preferred action. I like the Bounty Hunter because its a .44 mag revolver which is inherently awesome. It looks cool and handy and I have a big soft spot for revolvers.

So what should I do? Any suggestions or helpful ideas?

No particular reason, other than I prefer it to the semi-autos you listed. (And it's just a sweet gun).

tough choice... I might go with the XD and get a brick of PMC ammo for plinking and your still under the $600 price range

Go with the XD but if it's just for fun get a 9mm 5" tactical. Way more fun to shoot. Good luck.

I'd say a Blackhawk in 45 LC.

But that's only if you don't have reloading equipment. $500 would set you up in reloading, and reloading is a lot of fun (for me). :)

If he's going to shoot a .45 Colt much, he's going to need the reloading equipment first. ;) The first and last box of factory ammo I bought cost me $27 several years ago.



Buy either the S&W* or the XD.

* .44 mag ammo is about the same price as .45 Colt, so if you're going to shoot it enough to be proficient with it, you'll need to handload...unless you're rich. .44 Specials are a lot more pleasant to shoot, but are harder to find. With either the .45 Colt or the .44 mag, I find that a 240-255 grain bullet at 1000 to 1200 fps has more than enough horsepower and is still pleasant to shoot.

Of the guns you listed. Bounty hunter. Mostly cause they won't be around long.

By far the Bounty Hunter since it is by far the most interesting. The other two are nothing more then tactical tupperware. They might be perfectly good tactical tupperware but they just don't have the cool factor of the Smith IMO. Besides how likely are you to get into armed combat vs. having a cool gun at the range. :D

I'd get the Springer XD, as well. I shot my 4" service model .45 ACP
weekend before last; and it shot really well. I had almost forgotten
how great it was, cuz I have been shoot'in those 1911's~! :D :uhoh:

get the XD and use the extra cash for ammo.

Since you don't know tell her your choices and let her decide what to buy.

What do you currently have most of? Revolvers or Autos? Get what you don't have or have less of.
I love a good revolver but a 3" .44 mag is not exactly a fun shooter unless you like pain. If there is a similar .357 I would highly recommend that. It has bokou power and you can plink with .38 special ammo.

I have been thinking about it and I want that Bounty Hunter. Why? I don't know, but I like it. Expensive ammo? Well, yeah but I have been needing a reason to reload.

The XD I like but not near enough to pay what it cost. The FNP 45 I still hope to own one day.

XD would be my choice of the 3.

It isn't on the list, but I'd think the Glock 20 would fit nicely into your requirements. Cool caliber, no mechanical safeties, and under $600 (I believe, may hover right around there depending on the area/store). Otherwise, Bounty Hunter

Get a CZ 75, best 9mm out there! Tough as nails and will keep shooting till the cow come home!
