I am still a novice reloader and wonder if a .001 larger diameter bullet is safe to fire in a rifle. I have 3 Mosins (two M44s and one 91/30). The M44s slugged at .312 and the 91/30 at .311. Is it safe to use .312 jacketed bullets in the 91/30?

Absolutely. I don't even hestitate to go .002 larger in cast. .001 larger is pretty much standard for jacketed. I think you'll like the Hornady's . .they shot alot better in my Mosins than any surplus I bought.

FWIW.

Absolutely safe for lead-cored bullets, so long as you stay in standard pressure ranges for the reloads.

The slightly oversize bullet will swage down in the bore readily due to the soft lead center of the bullet.

The older Ruger Mini-30s had a .308 dia bore while most factory 7.62x39 ammo was .310-.311. The larger bullets were safe to shoot out of the .308 bore.
