I don’t do much trading on guns I usually keep all of them I get but I am wanting to get a xd 40 3" subcompact and trade my ruger 101 for it and was wondering what you all think I will have to give to boot on the trade. The 101 in like new condition I am just looking for something a little lighter for carry.

Yeah, value is roughly the same. I'm not sure the XD40 3" is any lighter though, especially with a loaded magazine.

I concur, especially if the SP in question is the 2" model. My 3" isn't that heavy.
They're about the same value. My first run 3" was $350 used, almost new shape.

My answer would be to keep the SP101 (they are just too sweet to sell/trade) and get a nice used XD-40 after saving some money.
Loaded, I would guess that the XD-40 will be about the same (if not more) weight than the SP101. Note: a good belt and holster makes weight disappear. My 5" 1911 doesn't bother me a bit to carry all day. I use a 1.5" gunbelt from thebeltman.com and carry in a Brommeland Max Con V IWB holster.
Honestly, either should be quite comfortable to carry all day with the right gear. And if anything, the rounded, smoothly contoured shapes of the SP101 might well be easier to hide, if that's a concern.

I agree keep the SP and save for the XD. I like you do not like to trade, I like to keep them all. I made one trade a few years ago and while I like the 6in GP100 I do miss the Glock 30 even if it was to thick for my hands or for me to carry concealed. I got the 6 inch for backup on a hunt that was planned but never happened.
