my grandfather has a nice side by side shotgun with two sets of barrels for it. the problem with it is that when loaded, the left chamber is the only to fire. the firing pin on the right side will hit the primer on the shot shell, but it wont go BANG!!!

i noticed a buldge in the action, as if the hammer were actually hitting the metal around the fireing pin hole, and pushjing it outwards. i filled it ever-so-slightly, just to remove the hump. i then took it back out nothing. still doing the same thing. is ther anything else i can try before taking it to a gunsmith???

thanks guys, brian.

Sorry, but there are about a hundred reasons for a shotgun of that type not firing, from a weak hammer spring, to a headspace problem. Unless you are familiar with the "innards" of double shotguns, I recommend a gunsmith.

My first guess from your description is the firing pin has been peened down and not long enough to strike the primer properly. Like Mr. Keenan said a gunsmith may be the best option.

A nice side by side with two pairs of barrels - you do not name the brand - is probably worth a nice gunsmith. If you can find one.
