I believe there is a thread on here about those CCW badges. The consensus is they will only get you in trouble.

When I clicked the link I saw an ad for some big time pepperspray, a scanner AND the badge.

Did you find all 3 in the car?

I've already commented in the past about how I think these aren't a great idea.

What bothers me most on this one is the blurb about the product:

"If you have your concealed carry permit, this is a must have! Similar to an officers badge, this CWP Badge is made by the same company (Blackington) who makes your local Police Departments Badges! Official size and weight."

(underlining added by me)

Now, what market segment are they trying to attract? Sure sounds like wanna-bes and mall ninjas to me (if not just straight out police impersonators)

I wonder if you can get a badge like that for being licensed to drive a car?lol

Saw one of these on a THR post about 6 months ago. Everyone thought it was a joke then, also.

When I was a correctional officer, there were some of my coworkers that bought CO badges. It wasn't long before they wouldn't show them to anyone anymore as they couldn't bear the humiliating laughter from their peers.

And wouldn't sporting/flashing such a badge technically violate your concealment? The only person you could show it to would be a LEO during some course of the officer's duty, and could you even look them in the face again after you did it?

Sure. They'll make it to say whatever you want. I gave one to a friend that said "Chief Building Suspector - 007"

He loved it.

Was that 'car' actually a highly-modified golf cart designed for urgent response in a certain nationally known retail outlet?

Looks like something a mall security guard (rent-ah-cop) would pull out when he catches someone stealing.

I actually saw a clerk at a store here in VA wearing one of those badges. And yes, his advice was just as poor as his taste.

Not to derail the thread, but if a cop friend of mine gives me an ATF shirt that doesn't proclaim me to be an ATF agent, but is something that only an ATF agent can get, is it "mall ninjaish" to wear it? Believe it or not everyone who works for or with the ATF isn't a nazi that wants to break in your door in the middle of the night and take your guns. Some of them are, but most of the guys on the ground are actually pretty nice.

Wondered about that badge when I saw one for sale in a shop and wondered who in heck would actually buy one, much less carry it. Anyone on this forum willing to fess up?

Playin' Devil's Advocate again...

I've had a few LEOs send T-shirts and ball caps to me...from DEA to Customs agants to FBI, and including a few big city departments. I do NOT wear these things...not even around the house. They're souvenirs.

A badge...might not be such a bad idea under certain circumstances...displayed only under those narrow circumstances.

If you become involved in a shooting...complete with the call of "Shots Fired/Man Down" and you're holding a second party at gunpoint...it's extremely hard for the responding officers to know who's the good guy and who's the bad guy.

A man down, with an unidentified person standing there pointing a gun at another one could get you shot pretty quickly unless the dispatcher has been advised that the guy wearing the ragged jeans and the Def Leppard shirt is the good guy AND has advised the responding officers of the same. These things have a way of gettin' screwed up sometimes. There have been instances of real cops being shot by other cops because they didn't know who was who.

Yeah...it could lead to a charge of impersonating. It could also lead to the morgue unless there's something visual that would cause them to hold their fire for a couple seconds longer, and give you the opportunity to stand down.

is it "mall ninjaish" to wear it?

The answer is yes. Do you really think anyone is going to be impressed or a BG is going to be scared of your badge? In the heat on the moment I'd be whipping out my gun, not a badge. Why else would you need one of these other than for a joke, or to show off that you're packing heat.

Not a badge, but a shirt. I have no desire to impersonate any LEO ever. This isn't like a "I'm in the ATF" shirt so much as it is something along the lines of " ATF barbecue and bake sale 2006" just not so much. I already have patches and badges from LEOs in the family as well as various military souvenirs from around the world. I wouldn't parade around with it on any more than I would go down to the mil-surp store, buy some BDUs, and put on my KFOR patch and march up and down the street.

There are nice socialists, too, who only want to help others and not abolish private property, but i wouldn't wear a Che t-shirt. Save the shirt for after the BATFE is gone. It would be a fun novelty.

First, it's not wise to advertise that you're carrying. Why not just wear a T-shirt that says "Yeah, I Have A Gun"?

There should be laws against wannabe wear. It reminds me of when I'm riding my bike, and some idiot pulls up along side in full Discovery Channel Team regalia. You just want to smack them. :neener:

I actually saw some of those for sale in a gun store locally. Apparently they sell enough to warrant shelf space in some shops.

I wouldn't want one, but apparently some people like 'em. To each his own.

I went shooting at one of the indoor ranges up here on the north side of town last winter. Through the window looking into the range I saw that there was a very nice looking (from behind anyway ;) ) young woman in the lane next to the one I was being assigned. Not a horrible shot either - not great, but not horrible.

When I got to the firing line, she turned a bit and I saw that she was even nicer looking from the front. Amazing eyes, beautiful smile and she was wearing one of these badges on a badge holder hanging from her belt. Just like the investigators in CSI 'wherever'.

If I were a cop and I pulled you over and then had the guts to hand that thing to me not only would I give you a ticket for whatever I pulled you over for I would be forced to accidently toss that thin into traffic so it could get run over. Something like that could only get you into trouble! My badge is a 2x3.5 peice of heavy paper that permit to cary concealed handgun. looks like paper is stronger than tin to me.
