Lace this California Latigo leather Toe Pad onto your shoe or boot to provide a comfortable resting place for the barrel of your gun, up away from dirt and moisture. A small, but important part of your equipment that demonstrates the care you take with your guns.

I have seen this in Germany before.
I was thinking what a crazy idea it was at the time, but now I found it made by an American company aswell...

Oh well. Better they shoot themselves in the foot than someone else. :rolleyes:

The only place I ever see them, is at Trap shoots.

I've seen a lot of those. They were always used buy shotgun shooters with break open type guns. Mostly buttheads who shoot skeet (not that all skeet shooters are buttheads), but a few Sporting Clays types to. Ya break the shotgun open, the set the muzzle on your toe, and it keeps the stock, and such in a somewhat natural to hold postion. The Range I used to work at held a NSSA shoot every year and your see tons of 'em around. Worse three days of the whole year:what:

It doesn't bother me. It is not my foot nor are any innocents endangered by the practice. Don't expect me to try it though...

I bet these are made by the same company that makes prosthetic feet. :D

Not for me, thanks. I've still got all ten toes, and intend to wear them all the way to cremation.

Eek! :what:

Sorry, I've already had one (non-firearms related) incident that by all rights should have cost me toes and maybe my right foot. I got off with a badly bruised foot instead. I'd like to keep it, thanks.

Ok, I am a novice to firearms. However, if you have a break-action shotgun and it is verifyably unloaded and open while resting, then what is teh big deal? It looks like a shoe-saving device to me, and when used responsibly (like all firearms and firearm accessories) it should pose no problems.

However, if you see a problem with the above situation, please enlighten me so that I wont make a possibly dangerous mistake.

What a stupid product. First it is a product that really isn't needed and people can just put the muzzles directly down on their shoes. Second, it violates the gun rule of not pointing a gun at anything you don't intend to destroy.

I've seen them and while I have O/U & S/S, I prefer my muzzle up. Guess I've shot handguns & rifles too long.

I shoot a lot of sporting clays. The only place I ever see those is on the skeet range. Skeet's lame anyways.

I told an older gent the other day to open the action on his semi auto and guess what fell out? :rolleyes:

Moparmike, you should ALWAYS follow Rule #1;
Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
and Rule #2;
Never let the muzzle of a gun point at anything you do not want to destroy or kill.
One day someone will forget to to unload and break the action, and if they violate Rule #3;
Keep your finger straight and off the trigger.
they will end up loosing a foot.

The bright side is that by using this stupid device, they are actually following Rule #4!
Be absolutely sure of your target, and what is behind it. :uhoh:

While I'm all for the 4 rules, aren't there *some* instances where you will have to break one of them? For instance, breaking down a gun for cleaning (watch that muzzle), putting the gun in a safe (who knows, could be neighbors in the apartment above you), etc.

Common sense seems to be the best rule in cases like these.

Seems a bit hypocritical to chastise a man for pointing an unloaded, broken-open shotgun at his shoe, when most people on this board, as concealed weapon carriers, commonly point a loaded handgun at their leg, buttocks, or genital area.

Ever heard of "Thunderwear"? :D

Seriously.

...that demonstrates the care you take with your guns.

But not your feet.

BTW, thunderwear, properly adjusted, points the muzzle past the genitals, and generally at the ground. Unless you're Johnny Holmes, in which case I don't recommend it.

Hypocritical? Not really. First of all, not all shotguns rested on the toes are empty or broken open. They should be, but we all know about that. We would not need the 4 rules of safe gun handling if people could manage to handling their guns properly. Unfortunately, for a person to get hurt by an unintentional/negligent discharge, it is not just one rule that is broken, but two or three and these are commonly without intentionally doing something like resting the muzzle of the gun on one's foot.

Unlike guns carried in holsters, these shotguns rested on the toes are not holstered and the trigger is not protected. For what it is work, Thunderwear, Mexican carry, Pager Pal, NAA mini revolver neckace holster, etc. are all products they seem to fit into the same category of stupid ideas.

Strangely, if there was a similar product that rested the muzzle of a gun directly on a person's head, we would all consider it to be really stupid, but not stupid to risk blowing off one's foot.

And if there was an inside-the-neckband holster that pointed your pistol at your head, would that be stupid, too? But its not stupid to point it at your crotch with a IWB holster at one-o'clock?

No matter how you slice it, when you holster or unholster a concealed carry weapon from/to an IWB holster, you're breaking the rule "don't point the gun at anything you don't intend to shoot". Unless you intend to shoot your crotch, leg, or buttocks.

I stand by my claim of hypocrisy.

By the way, serious trap and skeet shooters are, as a group, far and away the safest group of gun handlers I've ever seen. Watching their muzzle control is like a choreographed dance sequence. Sit and watch at the trap range sometime. Several groups of shooters will walk from the clubhouse to the gun rack to the firing line, without a single gun ever crossing paths with another shooter. I offfer as evidence the Grand American trap shoot. Its shot over ten days, and has been every year since 1900. There has never been a single gun accident.

Don't make me dig up the threads on this board about our members' negligent discharges.
