Brand new, and i go to chamber the first round from a loaded tube and if falls out of the bottom. I've also had problems with the gun trying to take more than one round into the chamber when i cycle it.
Someone please tell me this is a spring that will cost me $2 to fix.

I would say you have a burr or something keeping your cartridge stop from popping back out. It's easy to disassemble the defender if you have the book. You should be able to see what the problem is once get the bolt out etc. Check to see if everything moves smoothly. Being new, it may just need breaking in a bit. I doubt it's anything serious.

I am having problems with my new defender also, it double feeds. I called Winchester a week ago Fri and they were going to send a call label. So far nothing in the mail. Not so thrilled with the customer service.

Clubsoda22, turn the shogun over so the barrel is pointing to your right and you are looking at the loading port. Push up on the lever so you can clearly see the magazine plug. Looking on either side of the plug you will see cachtes whose purpose is holding the shells in the magazine. The one on the left is the culprit on my shotgun. It is supposed to be actuated when the slide is in the rearward position. Instead of riding along the slide and poping out leting only one shell into the loading gate it rides up above the slide not poping out at all resulting in full lockup. I took out the action and tried to straighten the bar but it just pops back. I might be crazy but it does not seem the best design as the bar is only supported at the rear of the action. I apologise for my poor description but you might watch those catches move as you cycle the action slowly. Good Luck YMMV
