I love Kimbers, so this is no brand flame!

Pro: Holds a few more rounds.
Cons: Funky imported plastic frame; most quality holsters made for a 1911 don't fit; poor resale value; but mainly you lose the wonderful 1911 "feel"!

For me the biggest CON is that it uses proprietary magazines that are alot tougher to find than the standard single stack 7 or 8 rounders.

As I understand it, the new poly guns are made inhouse or at least to different specs than the old Bul frames. They'll at least fit most holsters.

Check out the www.1911forum.com from more info.

Edit to add: I read somewhere (I think) that someone makes an aftermarket magcatch that'll run Para mags.

Rescomp makes that mag catch, I've yet to try it on my kimber though (i opened the hole with a file). My para mags have ran flawlessly.

The new polymers dont feel as good in my hand, compared to the old ones built on the BUL M5 frame. And my Kimber Polymer DOES fit leather 1911 holsters, it does, however have the round trigger gaurd but still wont fit fobus, or other plastic holsters.

I've heard the Kimber Hi-Cap (14 round) .45 mags are really not good as far as quality and they contracted them out to some subpar manufacture. Is this true?

Pretty disheartening for mags that are close to $100 a pop.

I only have one Kimber HiCap mag, but its a quality peice and i havent had any troubles out of it, although I havent used it much either.

If you like the Bul frames better, I believe that Charles Daly (http://www.charlesdaly.com/HTML/products/firearms/pistols/1911/bulm5.asp) will be the importer /distributer for their line. They have an Ed Brown style metal grip safety and are probably cheaper than the Kimber equivelants....

Do they make a Kimber polymer with a standard USGI style grip safety and spur hammer? I hate the commander style hammer and beavertail :barf:

How reliable has everyone's KP been? What length barrels?

I sorta like the looks of the 4" barrel model without the above mentioned items of course.

I have one of the Series I Polymer Stainless 5"barrel pistols. The original slide stop would lock the slide stop with rounds in the magazine. Kimber sent me a replacement and the problem seems to have been solved. I much prefer my all steel STI Trojan. As far as magazines go, I have 3 ten round mag and havent' had any problems.
