505 - .410 or 20GA - 20" barrel - 12" LOP - wood only

500 "Bantam" - .410, 20GA, or 12GA - 22" - 24" barrels - 13" LOP

500 "Super-Bantam" - 20GA or 12GA - 22" - 24" barrels - 12 or 13" LOP (depending on which spacers are installed) plus they come with a discount coupon towards an adult sized stock.

Thanks... I gathered that from the site, but I also gathered that the 505 barrels won't interchange with any of the 500 models. Do you happen to know why? Why did they come out with a new model if it's the basically the same as a 500 20 ga super bantam?

Thanks in advance

LOL Good luck answering that...

Why, for example, do they port the barrel of the standard 500 3" field gun, but not the 535 3 1/2" field gun? Why port the 930, but not the 935?

Why, why, why? Is THAT all you ask, 1KPerDay?:D

The only part that I can answer is that the lug where the barrel attaches on the 505 is shorter than the 500... (shorter mag tube...)

Guess that makes sense. What I really want to know is...

wait for it......

why? According to the site, they all weigh the same (which I doubt) and with identical 12" LOP, it would seem that there would be no reason for me to buy a 505 over a 500 Super Bantam if that's the only difference.

I guess I could try calling the company and see if they actually know. I've called a few that didn't. :D

Of course, they could just be following the lead of Remington, Beretta, et al and publishing incorrect weights and/or dimensions.:)

Yeah, I imagine so. There's no way they all weigh exactly 5 1/4 lbs.

Well, I emailed their cust/serv and we'll see what they say, if anything.

Well I called their customer service and it was no help... "The reason they came out with the 505 was because they wanted a model for a smaller person with a 12" length of pull"

Me: Yeah, but is there any advantage of the 505 over the super bantam, which is also available in a 12" LOP? Why did they come out with a new model with new barrel? Is there any advantage of the 505 over th 500?

Them: ummm.... The reason they came out with.... (same answer)

Thanks.

I have a 500 Bantam in 410 with a 24' VR barrel. I was interested in a replacement shorter barrel. Mossberg gave me a part # for a 20", and said that is the only one available.

I presumed hat was the same barrel as on the 505?????

After reading the previous posts...I guess not.....

Its all very confusing.:banghead:

The 20-gauge 505 has a shorter stock and barrel than the 20-gauge 500 Bantam. The Super Bantam has an adjustable stock (12" or 13" LOP), which neither of the others does. The 505 comes with a wood stock, which the Super Bantam doesn't: synthetic only. The 505 holds five shells, while the Bantam and Super Bantam each hold six. So it looks like your choices are:

--short, long, or adjustable stock
--synthetic or wood
--20" or 22" barrel
--five rounds or six

Just from memory, I think the 505 might also have a slimmer forend. The pistol grip proportions might be smaller too, but I'm not sure. I handled one in a store, and the overall feel was of a teeny-tiny gun. The Bantam and Super Bantam forends are the same size as on the adult 500 guns, IIRC, but are mounted further back so shorter arms can reach them. As for the weight, the Super Bantam has two different stock spacers that can be put in to increase LOP. Obviously, that would affect overall weight. It's not clear whether the weight figure the website gives is with or without the spacers in place.

On a side note, I have heard of people buying Super Bantams as home defense guns.

Thanks.

The 12" LOP on the 505 would seem to be equal to the 12" on the super bantam, but certainly other factors could make it seem much smaller.
