only 20rds, for $31.50! I'm told that's as cheap as it comes, for Cor-Bon. Other stuff's a bargain, by comparison.

I bet you would not be able to shoot all 50 at once :)

I would buy a couple boxes and then load my own once the dies come out.

I can see it now....hi-point comes out with a .500 s&w, and the gun comes with a box of ammo for $200.
People buy the guns, and sell them without the ammo.
Would you trust a hi-point .500 s&w???
Could you lift a hi-point .500 s&w?

Just funnin', trop.

I don't see why someone who doesn't reload would buy a S&W .500. Of course, a lot of things don't make sense to me, so that's ok :).

That's an excellent price. Tell us where to get them at such a cheap price. Who makes them?

Almost makes surplus .308 look like a 'plinking round'. With any luck, the price will come down eventually.

Trying to imagine the shoebox-sized carton the "Winchester White Box 100-ct. Value Pack" will come in someday!

That's a good price. $38 for 20 at my local pro shop.

Buy 'em while you can...

They will be a collector's item soon enough.

M16 - "That's an excellent price."

I agree. When the .50 AE came out, the rounds were in the $1.00 to $1.25 each range. Now they are in the 75 to 90 cent range. You can expect the .500 S&W to come down a little, but not much and not fast.

Reloading is the only way to fly.

Yup, bought my S&W 500 the other day, paid $36 for 12 round of Corbon 440 grain and $49 for 20 rounds of Hornady 275 grain. Dies, shell holders, and bullets are on order, should be in today.

BTW, I have emptied 13 pieces of brass in 2 range sessions. Do not believe the gunrags claim that you can shoot these all day!:what:

Hawkman; I don't have the Smith & Wesson version of the 500S&W but the BFR in 500 S&W. I have gone out several times and shot 50 rounds of the S&W500 in less than an hour and had no problems at all. Remember the BFR does not have the compensator and special grips the Smith has. I am shooting the 440 gr. Cast Performance bullets.

Tropical Z: Where did you see S&W500 rounds for $47.50 for 50 rounds. Most of use can't even reload them for that much. I have only seen the packaged in 12 or 20 rounds.

$47.95 for 50 rounds?... If this is a problem, please don't look into any African calibers, .458, .416, .470, etc. IF you can get the stuff it'll set you back at least $70 FOR 20 and rises rapidly from there. Don't even ask about stuff that's not commonly available. .470 Nitro Express is $170 FOR TWENTY, If I remember correctly... :what:

When I first started shooting .475 Linebaugh the only available factory loaded ammo was from BBA. Their jacketed stuff was $147.50 for 50.
The only brass that was made to fit the Freedom .475 was just over $1.00 each.
Now you can get Hornady brass delivered to your door for the .475 Linbaugh for under 40cents each.
Also for years there was only one source for factory loaded .454 Casull ammo. Cost averaged $60 for 50.
These calibers got cheaper with more people making ammo and so will the 500 S&W.
I can't imagine anyone buying a .500 S&W that does not plan on reloading for it. At the current prices you are not likely to get much trigger time with it unless you reload or have deep pockets.

I am sure I can shoot 50 rounds of S&W500 in an hour, but that don't mean my wrist ain't gonna know I did it, and if my grip is not just right the palm of my hand will, too.

I 'spec I'll get the scope sighted in then shoot it enuff to be able to hit that deer when the time comes.

For recreational shooting I'll stick to my S&W 329 with full power loads :D

Doesn't seem too out of line to me - after all, that's about what one would pay for the same number of rounds of premium centerfire rifle ammo and less than you'd pay for higher-end shotgun slugs. It's certainly hard to say that that .500 S&W rounds aren't comparable to, say, Win .308 in terms of material used and production costs.

.454 Casull ain't a lot better ... all but $20 for some Hornady rounds .. (20).

I have now bought 80 rounds of factory and have also aquired a new bullet mould and sizing gear . oh and load dies so .... once they are fired off ... it's homeloads all the way!

Priced like exotics. I remember MagSafes at $18 for a blister pack of 6 rounds. RBCD handgun ammo is $37.99 per box of 20, but the king is the .50 BMG rounds at $165.00 per box of 10, that is $16.50 per shot.

I'm considering ordering a Smith 500, for no other reason than I can get it for $550.....through a gun dealer friend.

Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

This is very interesting. DISTRIBUTOR cost (that they pay S&W) is a few cents over $624. I haven't seen a dealer cost lower than $651.

Jump on this one.

that's cheap..........I paid $65 for 50 rounds of Garrett's heavy cast weight forward 44 mag. hunting ammo.........310 gr. at 1325 fps............of course these will kill anything on the planet, but, don't know if they are worth that much, but, had a little money at the time.........

Yup, its below Distributor cost (I was skeptical when I first heard the price)........basically its a special program through S&W that allows a dealer/potential dealer to get several guns at a substantial discount for sample purposes.
