Hello guys!

I do not know if you remember, but I just bought my baby browning a couple days ago...today I had a great day as I fired 300 rounds through it without a single misfire!! Great little gun, even greater bcause I just payed 70 dollars for it!

But the question now is... a friend of mine has offered to sell me his Tanfoglio GT 380 new in the box (if you do not know the model by name, please check ( http://www.gunsupply.net/Main.asp?T=2777&I=130 ) for just 150 bucks..I do not know if it is a great price back there in the US, but it sure beats the 269 USd the stores are asking for!!

I tried the gun today and it works ok, I shot 50 rounds with it and accuracy is not what you would get out of a makarov but it is ok for 7 yards...

Have any of you heard of this gun, and do you have any comments???

I plan on using it as my primary carry gun, and use the baby browning as a backup....is this gun reliable enough for everyday use?? You guys always know better....

Thanks

is this gun reliable enough for everyday use?? Not unless they've gone way up in quality over the last 25 years, which I doubt, judging by your comments. I have one made back when FIE imported them into the USA. in the 1970's. They were junk then, and I'd say they are probably not much better now.

They're are (arguably) just a step up from Jennings or Bryco. Mine did however go bang evry time I pulled the trigger, and has had zero problems feeding any and all types of ammunition,,even hollow points and/or "hot" reloads.

"I shot 50 rounds with it and accuracy is not what you would get out of a makarov" - That speaks volumes right there. My GT380 is extremely accurate (realativly speaking), despite it's hard/heavy trigger pull. On a "betcha can't hit those cans" type of dare, I did manage to hit 4 out of 5 empty Coke cans at roughly 40- 50 yards once. If the one you shot was only so/so, I say it probably would be prone to having other problems too. Maybe. Maybe not. It's been my experience that the more accurate a gun is, the better the overall quality, more often than not.

I bought mine as a last resort type of weapon that I kept in the warehouse of a store I worked in at the time. I kept it placed up on top or a rack in the warehouse where I could reach it if someone ever robbed the store and marched me into the warehouse. Company policy forbid having guns, but I figured if I got marched into the backroom, it was a one way trip so I didn't care if I got fired over it. It served it's purpose well for a number of years, and remains a sentimental favorite of mine. It was also the first gun my son ever fired, and he's mentioned that he'd like to have it someday.

Bottom line I guess is that $150 is a fair price,,nothing special,,nothing outrageous,, for a "Store often, shoot little" type of gun. If you want something accurate and dependable that you can run thousans of rounds through, get a Mak. The GT380 won't be in it for the long term

I believe European American Arms (EAA) in Florida are the importers of these now. If that is the case, and you ever need parts or info in the future ... good luck!

I had an FIE stamped Tanfoglio Supertitan -- similar to yours, but an older model in .32acp. The magazine release is pot metal. Gun was indeed fun to shoot, but so are many guns.

For the same money, you can buy a Bulgarian surplus Makarov in 9x18 (I did) which you can keep and shoot well for the rest of your lifetime. Parts and helpful advice are there for the Makarovs, but not so for the gun you are asking about.

I live in Peru, and down here we do not find SURPLUS or anything like that.....

but anyway, thanks for your advice....

Do you guys think that I should just stick to my baby browning for carry??

Rogelio, I'm sorry but I did not read the end of your original message carefully. I am not the right person to ask questions about a carry gun, as I am a plinker, target shooter, and reloader hobby person.

I had one a few years ago, it was imported by "Excam"

I was generally dissatisfied with it. It shot alright and wasn't too bad to hold. Makarov any day over this thing.
