This has been offered to me and I am trying to assess a value...

Best described as a dual cylinder, with Coltwood grips, with 5 inch ribbed barrel that has been beveled. Allison sights. Prototype Serial Number. Built at the Colt factory by a long term employee that has the gun.....Assume the gun will letter....

Any ideas as to value.....
Any opinions as to how to proceed....

Get the letter first if you can. Without documented factory association, the gun is another "bubba" job.

Oddly, experimentals and prototypes don't bring big bucks, sometimes less than production guns.

What is the condition? Can you verify that it is a prototype firearm? Will it letter from Colt?

I have been offered to buy prototypes and upon looking at them there was no real way to tell if they were a gun smith's job or actually a prototype. Funds at that time were such that I didn't bite. I don't regret the decision as it is a speciality in the collecting world. Folks like RL Wilson could validate and appraise... but we all saw what happened with him. Life is a crap shoot.
