Wow first of all is what i have to say.
Went shooting today took my brother in law and one of my boys. I dont know if we made the right decision. It was probably around 105 at the range. Needless to say i feel like i am seeing stars still. Took 4 bp guns, 1 cva 50 cal, 1 30-30.
After shooting the 50 cal it felt like i was shooting a 22 when i was shooting the 30-30. As for the black powder guns. 2 1851's shot like the wind. So did the 1860. The Walker i really need to change those nipples. Shot one cylinder and then i just switched to my R&D cylinder. Shooting straight black powder was just too much trouble. Caps would not go off. Then pieces always seem to get into the works. Yep i really need to change those nipples. Shooting 45 long colt was such a blast though. I actually unscrewed the loading lever and took it off. then i would load up 6 bullets and shoot. then pull the wedge out and repeat. Only thing that held me back after a while was the barrel getting hot. After a couple hours. My son and brother n law just pulled out the 30-30 and continued to shoot that until it started getting rather warm too. When i used to shoot smokeless 30-30 that rifle was totally dialed in. I did shoot around 5 rounds through it. Thats when it felt like i was shooting a 22. We were shooting steel at 100 yards. I can still sit there and shoot round after round hitting steel with that rifle. My son wants me to experiment and try to load some black powder rounds for the 30-30. Im not too sure if we should though. As i have only ever shot smokeless through that rifle. Im not too sure how cleaning would be on it. Then im not too sure if i would be able to get out all the residue from black powder. So im up on the air on that. So well i did clean one gun so far. As for the others i think im going to wait until it cools down out here before i start cleaning the rest. That and i guess i need to drink a lot more water right now. If you guys go shooting out there be carefull this heat is really bad.
