Mounting a tactical light on a Mossberg 54125

Hello all,
I am new here and have a question. I bought a Mossberg 54125 picutred below for home defense.

I am trying to attach a light in a secure method and am having a hard time doing it. I prefer the Streamlight TLR1 and right now I am trying a standard piciatinny rail attached to the top where threre are some pre drilled holes. This is a secure way to mount a light, but the shotgun casts a huge shadow in the spill light. I wanted to see if I had any options other than gunsmithing? Thanks in advance. FYI any mag tube rails wont' work because this weapon is short and does not have th extended mag tube.

A Surefire dedicated forend will work well for you. I use them on my guns and it is a solid, reliable setup.

Thanks for the input. I wanted to keep the forearm since it has that strap, but I might have to change it after all. Thanks

80393OK, here is what I did to mine. Mounts for a Winchester Model 70, I used the thinner of the 2. #6 x 3/8" screws barely reach through forearm and do not interfere with functioning. Drill a hole smaller than the screw for the rear mounting hole and tighten. Put the light on and adjust the beam to where you want it, then carefully remove the light without moving the mount and drill the front hole. Once I had it where I wanted it, I mixed some 2-part epoxy and put on the back of the mount for extra security. The positioning allows me to work the light with either the index or middle finger of my left hand (right handed shooter).
One pic with the light on, and one of the whole gun. I did take off the PGO and replaced it with a synthetic youth stock from Outers, works very well with body armor. Also have a one point sling that is easily removed.
Hope this helps, PM me if you have more questions.
Good luck and enjoy:D

24.95 for this mount and it will fit between the forearm and end of magazine on a Mossy 500. In fact the Mossy 500 is their demo shotgun for this.
edited: Ah, wait. Now I see you have the breacher type with the 590 style barrel ring.
That mount won't work for you then.

Why do you need a light in a breacher's tool?
I'd get the dedicated SureFire fore end and put the strap on it. http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/851/sesent/00/Momentary-and-constant-on-switching
http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/858/sesent/00/Momentary-constant-on-system-disable-switching-
Then there is this option:
http://www.surefire.com/maxexp/main/co_disp/displ/prrfnbr/1128/sesent/00/Mossberg-500-590-Picatinny-Forend-
This would naturally be more complicated because you'd need rail covers but you should be able to rig the strap up to it.
What kind of sling/scabbard are you using with your tactical vest and does it get in the way of employing your primary weapon after you breach?

It is not dedicated solely to a breacher, so the light would be used when the shotgun is deployed for other reasons.

sling was home made last week, don't know yet if I will keep that or find something better. Breacher becomes rear guard after entry, so can either maintain shotgun as primary or transition to handgun, depending on the situation.
