While at the Indy 1500 this weekend, I actually got to see a HUGE 4 bore double rifle. WOW! It was immense, and beautifully built. Built in 1887 no less. I think the price tag was around $65K, but still, I've never seen a bigger shoulder-fired double rifle in my life. Just to see this rare museum piece was worth twice the price of the door cost.

Did anyone else see it? Maybe you guys weren't as impressed as I was, but I was truely impressed.

For a VERY interesting look at a modern 4-bore, see here (http://www.african-hunter.com/the_firearm_files.htm) - second and third articles on the page. Some great pictures, too!

Beauties! Last time I saw barrels that thick, I was on a destroyer escort.

There's a guy at the OGCA shows here in Ohio that collects nothing but safari guns. He has 5 or 6 4-bores, including a double.

Amazing pieces, I'd love to shoot one.
